Ex-NPA militia yields in Apayao

Trinidad, Benguet – A former Militia ng Bayan member operating with the New
People’s Army surrendered in Santa Marcela, Apayao on Thursday, Jan. 19.
Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, Police Regional Office-Cordillera director, said the 50-year-old rebel surrendered after a series of negotiations initiated by the Santa Marcela Municipal Police Station and Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Apayao PPO in line with the intensified campaign of the PRO-Cordillera to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).
The surrenderer yielded an Arisaka sniper rifle with with one magazine and four bullets and is now under the custody of the Santa Marcela MPS for debriefing and proper disposition.
He was endorsed to the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Livelihood Integrated Program (E-CLIP).
