BONTOC. Mountain Province – The Lang-ay Festival is set here March 27 to April 5, after an absence of three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic but with simplicity and less activities.
That was the decision arrived at during the meeting of the steering committee Jan. 31 due to time limitations and lack of funds.
The Foundation Day which is April 7 happens to fall on Hoy Week; April 7 is Good Friday.
The committee decided to move the weeklong celebration earlier to March 27-April 5 which will be the main culminating program for the commemoration of the Foundation Day of Mountain Province.
Activities include the usual Search for Miss Mountain Province, week-long Agro-Fair Market Encounter, street civic parade, cultural presentations, indigenous games, and the event culmination of Gangsa Night on April 5.
Provincial Administrator Franklin Odsey, committee chairperson this year, said preparations will be hastened given limited time.
In earlier versions, the usual preparations started October.
The Lang-ay Festival was not held the past three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although the kick off happened Oct. 7, 2022, no preparatory meeting or activities were conducted since then.
Less challenge will be for the western municipalities as they are having their municipal festivals the months of February and March.
They can declare the winners in their searches for the Miss municipalities and winners in the street dancing and cultural presentations as contingents in the Lang-ay.
But more challenges are poised for the eastern municipalities that will have their festivals in the months of June to December or after the Lang-ay Festival.
Organizers though are optimistic preparations given the limited time will be undertaken.
