VINTAR, Ilocos Norte — The P44-million river
wall flood control project has been finished in Ilocos Norte, the Dept of
Public Works and Highways said.
The DPWH on Wednesday announced the completion of a 216-meter project meant to protect lives and properties from natural disasters here in Sitio Namnama, Barangay Alsem.
“The construction of this river protection structure will not only prevent inundation and damage to properties but will also support the growing economy of Vintar as a local tourist destination,” the DPWH regional director Ronnel Tan said in a statement.
Tan lauded the First District Engineering Office of the province for the on-time completion of the flood wall along the Vintar River, also known as the Bislak River.
Last year, Ilocos Norte suffered millions of losses due to the widespread flood brought by Tropical Depression Maymay and Typhoon Neneng (international name: Nesat).
The flood-battered town was also placed under a state of calamity in 2019 due to storm — Niña Cuasay
