DAGUPAN CITY -- Three children drowned in separate incidents in Pangasinan province on July 29 and 30, the Pangasinan Police Office reported Monday.
The victims were identified as 9-year-old John Vincent Ancheta Vidal of Barangay Tambobong in Dasol town, 7-year-old Christian King Miles Sabiniano of Barangay Bocboc West in Aguilar town, and 12-year-old Rodel de Guzman Frias of Barangay Anambongan in Bayambang town.
Police said that Vidal was playing with his friends at 12:25 p.m. on Saturday at the beach fronting a resort when he was dragged into the deeper part of the sea by strong waves.
Policemen, who were in the area at that time, pulled Vidal from the water and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before taking him to the Dasol Community Hospital where a doctor declared him dead.
Sabiniano, a Grade 1 pupil, drowned when he slipped and fell into a roadside canal, where he was swept by the strong current at around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
He was also taken to a hospital in Mangatarem town, but a doctor there pronounced him dead on arrival.
Frias, a Grade 4 pupil, drowned in a fish pond on Saturday at around 1 p.m.
Police said that while swimming with his friends in the fishpond, Frias unwittingly reached the deep part of the pond, struggled to stay afloat and drowned.
Frias was immediately
retrieved by his neighbors and rushed to the Bayambang District Hospital, where
a doctor there pronounced him dead on arrival.
