ROSALES, Pangasinan -- Three persons were killed and another was injured when a car rammed into a truck at dawn Wednesday, August 16, in Barangay Carmen East here.
Capt. Jesus Reparejo, deputy chief of police, identified those killed as car driver Ma. Patricia Kate Facun, 21, and her passengers, Kenneth de Guzman Darang, 24, and Jewelle Anne Masangkay, 26.
The third car passenger, Kisha Hannah Corcha Castro, 22, survived the road crash and is now being treated in a hospital, Reparejo said.
Before the incident took place, investigators said the two vehicles were both crossing the Don Teofilo Sison Bridge separating this town and neighboring Villasis town at about 4:40 a.m., with the truck fully loaded with chicken feed traversing the north-bound lane of the bridge, and the car, a Mitsubishi Mirage GLX, traveling south.
All of a sudden, truck driver Wilson Sevilla Idava, 40, saw the car swerve to his lane.
He stopped his truck on the outermost lane of the bridge to give way to the car, but the car still hit his truck head-on.
As a result, the car driver and her passengers suffered severe injuries to different parts of their bodies and were immediately taken to the Dr. Marcelo H. Chan Memorial Hospital and Del Carmen Medical Clinic and Hospital in Barangay Carmen West here.
Facun, the car driver, and car passenger Darang were declared dead by an attending physician at the hospital.
Masangkay, the car passenger who sat behind Darang, did not make it to the hospital alive.
Reparejo said investigators were still trying to find out why the car suddenly swerved to the opposite lane.
