3 killed in La Union highway crashes

DAGUPAN CITY -- Three motorcycle riders were killed while three others were hurt in three separate road crashes in La Union on Monday and Tuesday, police said.
    In Rosario, La Union, a tricycle driver died when the tricycle he was driving turned turtle on the highway traversing Barangay Udiao at about 9 p.m. on July 3.
    Police said the driver, Amante Almadrigo, 64, apparently lost control of his tricycle's steering handlebar when a vehicle suddenly overtook him on the right side of the road.
    Almadrigo did not reach the Rosario District Hospital alive.
    His passenger, Juanito Cuevas, 47, is now being treated in the hospital.
    In Bauang, La Union, motorcycle driver Arnold Abuan, 18, was killed after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a trailer truck parked on the outer lane of a highway in Barangay Santiago at about 12:20 a.m. on July 4.
    Due to the strong impact, Abuan and his back rider, Jason Llarenas, 20, were thrown off the bike and fell on the pavement, killing Abuan instantly, police said. Llarenas is now being treated in a hospital.
    In Agoo, La Union, vegetable vendor Christian Nagnason, 37, died when the motorcycle he was driving rear-ended a truck along Marcos Highway in Barangay San Agustin at about 12:15 a.m. on July 4
    Nagnason died while he was being treated in a hospital. His back rider, Jayson Llavore, 25, suffered injuries and was taken to another hospital for medical treatment.
    Police said both vehicles were traversing the westbound lane of the highway when the incident took place.
    It was not still clear why the motorcycle crashed into the truck.
