LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- Four persons, including a father and his son, drowned in two separate incidents in Pangasinan on August 6, according to a report of the Police Regional Office 1.
In Binalonan, what was supposed to be a happy family picnic at the Alibeng River in Barangay Moreno turned into a tragedy when a father, his son and a nephew drowned.
The father, Raymond Ramos, 33, was trying to save his son, Prince, 12, and his nephew, Rayvie Lloyd Abanilla, 12, from being carried by the strong current to the deeper part of the river.
But police said Ramos failed to save the two kids and ended up being dragged with them by the strong current.
Rescue teams from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and Binalonan Police Station immediately searched and recovered the victims' bodies.
The victims were all taken to the Urdaneta City District Hospital in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan but a doctor declared them dead on arrival.
In Alcala town, a 13-year-old student drowned in a creek in Barangay Pindangan East at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Police said Darren Wendel Faro Arciaga drowned after he was swept by strong currents in the creek.
He was retrieved from the creek after about three hours but was declared dead by an attending physician.
