MORE GROUPS called for the surfacing of activists Dexter Capuyan and Gene Roz ‘Bazoo’ de Jesus even as the hearing for the Habeas Corpus petition filed by the families of the activists was rescheduled.
“The summoned persons are
using delaying tactics such as feigning ignorance to avoid justice and evade
the truth,” said the Kabataan para sa Tribung Pilipino in a statement.
Katribu was referring to “members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police namely AFP chief of staff Lt. Gen. Andres Centino, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, PNP Rizal provincial director Col. Dominic Baccay and Criminal Investigation Group chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat.”
Ma. Eloisa Jazmin A. Mesina, Katribu chairperson said their group
“ stands firm in uniting with various human rights defenders and organizations in calling for the accountability of the involved institutions, AFP and PNP to the abduction of Dexter and Bazoo, and deprivation of their right to due process.
Earlier reports said Capuyan and de Jesus were abducted by CIDG agents earlier in Taytay, Rizal.
Katribu said “those responsible should answer and be held accountable on behalf of the summoned persons from the AFP-PNP.”
Mesina added due process should be observed in cases involving people like activists.
She said institutions and individuals that assert human rights have been subjected human rights violations by State agents.
“Just this year, attacks have worsened such as the terrorist tagging of four Igorot leaders on July 10, and military harassment of Mangyan residents in Mindoro on July 13,” Mesina said.
