NPA guerilla yields in Abra

MANABO, Abra -- Another New People’s Army guerilla voluntarily surrendered here
to provincial authorities on Wednesday August 23, the regional police
information office said.
Reports submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David. K. Peredo Jr. said the rebel returnee surrendered after series of negotiations conducted by elements of the 2nd Abra Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) led by Lt. Col. Dickson K. Banes, commander of 2nd Abra PMFC; the 1st Abra PMFC, Provincial Intelligence Unit of Abra, Manabo Municipal Police Station, Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Intelligence Unit 14, 1504th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 and 24th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
The former rebel, who was not named, surrendered without a firearm and expressed support to government peace efforts to end conflict with the communist movement.
The rebel returnee is now under custody of the 2nd Abra PMFC for custodial debriefing.
