Three Kalinga barangays watched for poll violence

LUBUAGAN, Kalinga — Police are monitoring three villages of this town due to possible poll violence as barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections near.
The villages of Mabongtot, Upper Uma and Western Uma in Lubuagan town were categorized as critical areas by the Commission on Elections.
The election period for barangay and SK elections starts Aug. 28.
Filing of certificates of candidacy is Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.
A gun ban will be implemented and checkpoints will be set up by the police and the military.
The Comelec office in Cordillera said the three barangays have a history of poll-related violence and intense political rivalries.
Aside from the three Kalinga barangays, 13 villages in Abra were categorized under yellow alert for having a history of political violence.
