TUGUEGARAO CITY -- The number of families affected by Typhoon "Goring" in Cagayan reached 2,611, or 8,547 individuals, in 105 barangay (villages) as of Monday afternoon, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) said in a news advisory on August 28.
Those housed at evacuation centers reached 716 families, or 2,278 people, while those staying with relatives and friends reached 509 families, or 1,692 people, the PDRRMO added.
Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba ordered suspension of classes in public and private schools in all levels on Tuesday, August 29, as flooding persisted in the northern part of the province on Monday.
The governor said heavy rains and winds continued while Cagayan River and its tributaries swelled, causing landslides and floods.
A separate order was issued by Tuguegarao City Mayor Maila Ting-Que due to river swelling while villagers repaired damaged houses.
