THREE IGOROT police officers assigned in Mindanao, particularly in the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office lead risky tasks in bringing peace and order to communities that have cultural features different from the Cordillera where they grew up.
Last August 25, the PNP in Mindanao presented awards to deserving police officials during its 122nd Police Service Anniversary, despite recent news reports of bad behavior by policemen who continue to grab national headlines.
Two weeks ago, a composite team from the LDS-PPO seized P7.5 million worth of shabu in two separate operations and arrested four suspected “big-time” drug peddlers in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.
Col. Robert S. Daculan, Lanao del Sur provincial director, reported the team composed of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency personnel, LDS-PPO cops and AFP men nabbed two suspects during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Gadongan, and arrested two more in an another successful anti-drug operation the next day. The awardees last August were LDS-PPO director Col. Daculan who was awarded the Best Police Commissioned Officer for Operation; and Lt.Col Thomas R. Pantaleon Jr. who was awarded Best Junior Police Commissioned Officer for Operation as head of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company that was also cited as the Best PMFC.
Col. Daculan traces his roots in Mankayan, Benguet while Lt.Col is from Kibungan, Benguet.
The third awardee was Lt.Col. Gieson Baniaga, chief of Marawi City Police Station who received the award for the Best Component City Police Station.
He is from Sagada, Mountain. Province.
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BAR) PNP Regional Director Brig. Gen. Allan C. Nobleza awarded the deserving PNP officers in the annual PNP celebration held at the PNP Regional Office grandstand at Camp Gen. Salipada K Pendatun, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
He was assisted by Basilan Gov. Hadjiman Hataman Salliman.
In the October 30 polls, policemen under the LDS-PPO are expected to serve as poll workers in areas to be classified as hot spots during the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).
Prior to the awards last August and two months away from the BSKE this year, Col. Daculan reported 16 towns in the province were potential areas of concern during the polls on October 30.
He said this would be updated based on the gravity of political rivalries which could be determined after the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC).
In his report, 20 barangays fall under the red category or areas with grave security concerns in the First District while around 30 were listed in the Second District.
