23 dead; Kalinga to have dialysis center

     

TABUK CITY, Kalinga- - Patients in the province in need of dialysis can look forward to a dialysis center in the province soon as the Provincial Health Office recently recorded 23 deaths from kidney and liver ailments while 38 patients are currently having dialysis procedure in hospitals outside the province.

Vice Gov. James Edduba led last week ground breaking of dialysis center at Kalinga Provincial Hospital compound.

The facility is a joint project between Dept. of Health and provincial government.

Under the partnership, DOH will provide ten dialysis machines including accessories while the provincial government will construct the building as counterpart.

Edduba said P8 million derived from the province’s savings was allotted for the project.

Provincial Health Officer Romulo Gaerlan said DOH will deliver the machines as soon as the building is completed.

Gaerlan said the project is the answer to the pressing need for a dialysis facility in the province with its high cases of chronic kidney disease.

New tack vs global warming still useless

 New tack versus global warming and change still useless: I am willing to agree that the world must now focus on climate adaptation, or undertaking measures to protect ourselves from the death and destruction that come with global warming and climate change, as what the United States of America has been quietly trying to do recently in its cities and counties.

           

Indeed, the world must now act to save humanity from the warming planet’s wild weather with new directions, instead of what it had been trying to do before: find ways to stop global warming. But, unless and until world leaders will come to the realization that global warming and climate change could not be successfully staved off by man’s efforts alone, nothing is going to come out again of this new tack at “climate adaptation”.

           

The undeniable reality is that, whether man is pursuing climate adaptation or fighting off global warming and climate change by cutting carbon emission, he, by himself alone, cannot succeed in doing it, and the trillions and trillions of dollars he has been employing in his puny efforts will just go down the drain and will not benefit anyone, and death and destruction will continue to victimize men and women everywhere.

Global warming and climate change as curses from God: The world needs God to successfully fight global warming and climate change. The fact is that God’s Holy Bible categorically states that global warming and climate change are curses coming from God Himself, for two particular reasons---man is no longer listening to God (meaning, man is no longer reading His Bible), and is no longer obeying His commands.

           

We can find this in Deuteronomy 28:15 and 22-23 of the Bible. These passages say: If you no longer listen to God, and no longer obey His commands, all these curses will come upon you: The Lord will strike you with scorching heat, the sky over your head will burn with heat, the ground you step will become like iron, and dust and powder will rain upon you from the skies, until you are destroyed.

           

Surely, these calamities are now upon us today. And the sad reality is that they will continue to be with us, without let-up, without anyone being able to do anything about them despite the attempts, totally inutile of course, of world leaders, precisely because the prediction from the Bible is that all, of these will happen to us, until we are all destroyed.

 Spiritual solution to global warming: Is there any other thing then that global leaders can do in the face of this grim future? Yes, there is. Side by side with their present endeavors to either fight off or adapt to global warming and climate change, they must understand that since these curses are brought about by a very spiritual and a very Biblical basis, a big part of the solution must also be spiritual and Biblical.

           

That spiritual and Biblical solution is provided for by the Bible itself: since global warming and climate change are caused by people who no longer listen to God and who no longer obey His commands, an effort must be made to bring back humanity to listen to God once again and to obey Him once more.

           

It is only when people are listening to God and obeying Him once more that things will start to change for the better. A people who live by God’s Word and God’s commands will be effective instruments of environmental caring, a people who will not destroy nature and the environment because they believe that everything in this world is part of God’s wonderful creation, and a people who are no longer cursed but inspired with ideas that will make the world a better place to live in.

 Gordon to SC: Stop Comelec tampering: Here’s a press statement coming from the camp of defeated senatorial candidate Richard Gordon, posted in Facebook by his chief of staff, lawyer Rodolfo “Inky” Reyes: “Gordon is asking the Supreme Court to stop the Commission on Elections from removing the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines used in the May 13 national and local elections from the polling precincts where they have been stationed for the recently-concluded elections.

“In a 14-page Urgent Omnibus Motion with a prayer for the issuance of a temporary restraining order, Gordon asked the high tribunal to direct Chairman SixtoBrillantes to comply with his earlier commitment to provide the petitioners or their designated representatives or information technology experts with a complete compilable digital copy of the source code for the automated election system used in the May 13 polls.

“In asking for the issuance of an order to stop the poll body from removing the PCOS machines from their respective precincts, schoolhouses, or present whereabouts and transferring them to the Comelec warehouses, Gordon said this is necessary to prevent anyone from tampering with the components, contents and software encoded into the machines.

  TRO sought on PCOS transfer to Comelec : “Gordon, author of Republic Act 9369 or the Automated Elections System Law, pointed out that the issuance of a restraining order would preserve their legal right to determine whether or not the source code encoded or loaded into the PCOS machines are identical to the source code to be provided by the Comelec to the petitioners.

“As a necessary corollary to this Court’s directive for Brillantes to allow the Petitioners’ fair examination and review of the Source Code, it is imperative that the Petitioners and their designated representatives likewise be granted an opportunity to ascertain that the Source Code to be provided by the Respondent for the automated election system of the 13 May 2013 national and local elections are indeed the same Source Code compiled and encoded into the PCOS machines,’ Gordon said in the motion.

“ `Thus, it is imperative for the Respondent to produce and make available to the Petitioners and their designated representatives a complete compilable copy of the Source Code duly recorded on standard optical or similar commercially-available digital media.

A ‘compilable copy’ of computer software is a digital copy of computer software that can be readily transformed, encoded, or `compiled’ into machine-readable binary code and electronically tested,’ he added.

  Review of PCOS source code to see if tampering is done: “Gordon stressed that it is imperative for the Supreme Court to stop the Comelec or any other party from handling the PCOS machines and possibly tampering with the program installed in them since it would render futile a review and comparison of the source code.

“ `A review of the source code would show any mismatch between the respective hash codes generated from the Source Code and those from the PCOS machines’ embedded software. It would show possible tampering and/or the unlawful adulteration of the Source Code prior to their loading into the PCOS machines used for the 13 May 2013 national and local elections,” Gordon said.

“If the evidence represented by the software actually embedded into the PCOS machines are not preserved through the proper injunctive writs from this Honorable Tribunal, the Respondent may just remove the actual Source Code loaded into the PCOS machines and erase whatever anomaly that it or other unscrupulous individuals may have committed to corrupt the automated election system and subvert the true sovereign will of the people during the 13 May 2013 national and local elections,’ he added…”
