Cagayan showcase gets raves in Manila
TUGUEGARAO CITY -- Home to some of the country’s pristine areas and well-preserved cultural practices and religious traditions, Cagayan Valley took center stage at the 18th Philippine Travel Mart on Sept. 7-9 at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
Organized by the Philippine Tour Operators Association, the event served as a “one stop shop” for local and foreign visitors who want a complete package for a tour of some of the country’s top tourist destinations.
Cagayan Valley or Region 2 is a major tourist draw because of its rich cultural heritage, and extant religious practices as well as its natural attractions that remain unspoiled.
Think of Cagayan Valley and the grand Cagayan River comes to mind -- one of the country’s mightiest rivers that serves as a route for ships that come to the valley.
To devotees, Cagayan is a natural magnet because of the majestic Piat Basilica Minore and the miraculous image of the Our Lady of Piat.
Also “must see” are the Callao caves and the flight of bats at dusk which never fails to amaze visitors.
Also in the region is Nueva Vizcaya, the country’s citrus capital and gateway to Mt. Pulag in Benguet, the second highest peak in the Philippines.
Quirino province offers visitors virgin forests rich in biodiversity, majestic waterfalls, rivers, and camping grounds.
In the heart of the region is Isabela, both and an industrial belt and tourist zone. It has two cities -- Santiago and Cauayan which continue to attract investors and cultural visitors.
These towns boast of brick churches, while the forests play host to Philippine eagle and cloud rat. And its waters are shelter whales, dolphins, and other cetaceans.
