BONTOC, Mountain Province – The implementation of the national government’s Ladderized Education Program in state colleges and universities and private Higher Education Institutions in the country has brought a significant change in the attitude of students in the tertiary level.
Dr. Nieves A. Dacyon, president of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College bared this here, saying students are more productive nowadays while earning a higher degree of education.

She saidt the LEP provides an avenue for poor but deserving students, especially those from the countryside to earn competencies to allow them to work while pursuing a higher level of learning in their desired collegiate course.

MPSPC is one of the pioneer tertiary schools in the region where the LEP was implemented due to its competency-based courses.

Dacyon said the LEP aims to train young Filipinos to be productive at an early age which must be carried on to help uplift the country’s economy in the future.

Students who possess the skills and knowledge would have the chance to earn a descent education even with meager resources.

At present, among the courses at MPSPC that are under the LEP include Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, Bachelor of Science in Tourism and bachelor of Science in Engineering.

Courses that are being processed for LEP accreditation are Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration among others to beef up its rapidly increasing enrollment especially during the first semester of every school year.

According to her, the successful implementation of the LEP under the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo scholarship program is one of the show windows of the institution to be at par with the levels of other top caliber schools in the country.

However, the offering of the LEP in other private HEIs in the region serves as an avenue for students to choose on where to undergo their competency-based training to ensure that they will land in a descent job here or abroad.

She expressed confidence that the institution maintains the momentum of its gains over the past three years despite efforts by some disgruntled individuals to pin down the whole college through their unwarranted propaganda and disinformation.

The MPSPC official has introduced reforms in her administration to restore honor and dignity to the college that is being continually criticized by undesirable individuals.

Dacyon encouraged upcoming college students to avail of the LEP in the institution and have an opportunity to earn while pursuing their higher level of learning in preparation for the challenges in life in the future.
