MP folks urged: Support b’gay learning centers
TADIAN, Mountain Province – The management of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College urged the people and philanthropists to support establishment of barangay reading and research centers in the 145 barangays of this province by donating books and other reading materials which would aid beneficiaries in becoming good readers and responsible leaders in the future.
Dr. Nieves Dacyon, MPSPC said during the launching of the barangay reading and research center at barangay Poblacion here more reading materials would enhance such centers.
Tadian barangays, namely, Lubon, Kayan East, Kayan West, Sumadel, Masla and Poblacion, were initial beneficiaries of the donated reading materials from the state-run higher education institution in the province as part of its research and extension program.
Dacyon said books and other reading materials in the reading and research providers would provide sufficient knowledge to the community residents especially on the events happening in the different parts of the global village.
More importantly the reading centers would cater to the research needs of the students and other stakeholders because the school will ensure that it will be equipped with the latest materials and supplies with the support of the community.
She emphasized the establishment of barangay reading centers should be a solid partnership between the school and the community in order to realize its goals and objectives to further improve the literacy rate in the remote areas as well as ensure awareness among the people on the issues and concerns that warrants their own opinion and stand.
From the quotation “Read Today, Lead Tomorrow,” Dacyon believes the young generations of people from Mountain Province will become responsible and dedicated leaders in the future.
Bonifacio Daskeo, punong barangay of Poblacion, said partnership between the barangay, community and the school will surely result to a smoother implementation of the noble project.
Aside from barangay officials and community residents, school officials who attended the launching program were Dr. Gregorio M. delos Santos, MPSPC vice-president, Dr. Hilary Tican, executive dean of the Tadian campus, Fely Akilit, school librarian among others.
