Female NPA cadre surrenders to army

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A New People’s Army female cadre recently surrendered to the army in the province.
Margarita L. Lammawin Aka Cherie was formally presented to Mark. Gen. Nestor Ochoa, commander of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, by LTC Loreto Magundayao, commanding officer of the 5th Civil Military Operations Battalion during the celebration of the International Humanitarian Law held at the Division Officers Club House on August 12 in Camp Gamu Isabela.
Lammawin, 40 of Gawaan, Saligsig, Balbalan, Kalinga surrendered her M16 rifle with 49 bullets.
According to her revelations, she entered the NPA when she was 19. In 1988 to 2003, she decided to lie low from the movement for fear of her life.
Cherie told army officers she was a medical officer of the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Baggas of the NPA operating in Kalinga.
She said she opted to surrender because staying in the underground movement for many years was hard.
