Comelec urges NBI to probe stolen La Union ballot boxes

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union– The National Bureau of Investigation has been asked by the Commission on Elections to probe loss of contested election results from La Union at the Comelec’s Election Records and Statistics Division in Intramuros, Manila on July 27.
Lawyer Ferdinand Rafanan, head of Comelec’s law department, informed Chairman Jose Melo they sought assistance of the NBI for the investigation.
Rafanan, in his urgent memorandum, cited alleged bribery committed by a certain Johnson Pagulayan, a security officer, and his attempt to broker unauthorized entry of individuals in the ERSD during non-office hours.
Another was suspicion that ballot boxes containing election returns for La Union during the 2007 election have been tampered.
Two security personnel and a property custodian of ERSD were reportedly suspended and held for questioning regarding the incident.
La Union Governor Manuel Ortega met with his political allies announced here Melo has ordered an investigation on the matter.
Ortega said the incident was obviously done to benefit the election protest of his political opponents who wanted to subvert the will of the people of La Union.in the 2007 elections.
Meanwhile, La Union board member Rolando Rivera said he will file a resolution seeking a Senate inquiry on the matter.

I am not surprised .... La Union has missing ballot boxes? When i was still living in La Union, I used to volunteer on election counting as in volunteer or free of charge. I saw a lot of irregularities and my friend told me to just be quiet kasi baka me mangyari pa sa akin. The Ortegas are really greedy and power hunger.
