TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Government officials and civic leaders urged families involved in clan and tribal wars to solve disputes through peaceful means to avoid further bloodshed even as peace councils were called to intervene.

Clan wars recently erupted between families in Lubo and Tanudan towns resulting to the death of five persons this year in Nambaran, Tabuk involving the Tulgao tribe that claimed four lives.

Gov. Jocel Baac public appealed to elders in areas where these killings happened to take the first move. “There are customary practices that can appease an aggrieved party which can effectively patched up the conflict.”

He also ordered concerned government officials to act accordingly as the problem might escalate and affect other parties.

“Though these incidents are in nature police matters, it also requires prudence by go-betweens for possible mediation to apply heart-softening strategies since the death toll is heavy on one side,” Baac said.

Immediately after the killing of three persons belonging to the Tulgao sub-tribe and wounding of one in two separate incidents on Sept. 24, personnel of the 21st Infantry Battalion and Police Regional Mobile Group were dispatched at Nambaran to prevent further gun battles.
