CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet- To address criminal incidents committed by suspected gunmen riding in tandem, the regional police office launched Oplan “Red Eye” to run after the gun-for-hire killers.

Present during the occasion were Baguio City Mayor Mauricio G Domogan, Cordillera regional police director Chief Supt. Benjamin B. Magalong; regional director for operations Senior Supt. Roberto Soriano and Baguio City PNP Office director Senior Supt. David Q. Lacdan.

Senior Insp. Karissma Sta. Juana, PNP regional spokesperson, said the Oplan Red Eye concept was adopted by Magalong from the Oplan “Checkmate” which was originally implemented by Quezon Police Provincial Office to neutralize carnapping incidents.

It was first launched by Abra police provincial office last Feb. 18.

Baguio City was second to implement the campaign in the region.

A total of 99 members of the Baguio-Ilocos Regional Alliance Inc., an organization of motorbike riders, and other freelance bikers were the pioneer recipients of the identification cards and Motorbike stickers issued by the Baguio City Police Office.

Sta. Juana said the ID’s and stickers contained a unique control number that is jived with the name of the motorcycle’s plate number, color and brand, OR and CR number and the name of the owner.

This information will be saved in a database which will be located at the BCPO Headquarters.

The stickers were placed at the front portion of each motorcycle to be viewed better during checkpoint operations and will be used to trace criminal elements.

The following are required in the issuance of the Red Eye sticker: Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration of the motor vehicle, two valid IDs, and the motor to be provided with a sticker. The issuance of the stickers and ID’s is still ongoing and interested bikers may apply at the BCPO headquarters.
