BAGUIO CITY—City police director Senior Supt. Roberto Q. Soriano
warned residents here who litter or indiscriminately dump garbage in any part
of the city would be arrested.
Police started to take the lead role in cleaning the city of trash
following an order of Mayor Mauricio Domogan to punish violators of illegal
dumping of garbage.
Soriano said the mayor’s order was embodied in Administrative
Order No. 89, series 2012 “creating the task force of anti-littering and
illegal/discriminate dumping of solid waste in the city of Baguio”.
‘Even my co-officers, who
are station commanders and heads of offices will be relieved from their duties
once they cannot implement the strict order,” Soriano said.
He said even if the BCPO is only a member of the task force, “the
police would rather be part of the solution and not of the problem.”
Soriano warned the public to obey rules of dumping their garbage
at collection areas.
He advised his men to immediately coordinate with all barangay
leaders of the intensified anti-illegal garbage dumping campaign in order to
afford all residents and visitors here in due notice.
Soriano added his order is in consonance to duties and
responsibilities of the task force to apprehend violators of anti-littering and
illegal/indiscriminate dumping of solid waste
Task force members were ordered to bring violators to the nearest
police station for documentation and appear as witnesses in court and other
judicial bodies and to monitor the compliance of residents in the segregation
of garbage at source
Soriano said part of their job was to compel residents to bring
out their garbage only during the scheduled pick up days and time and ensure
violators pay fines serve their sentence as prescribed by the courts.
