Councilor nabbed for illegal firearm, bullets

PINUKPUK, Kalinga -- An incumbent Sanguniang Bayan member of
this town were recently arrested for illegal possession of firearm after he
tried to evade lawmen.
Councilor Pedro F. Mabanag, 55t of Barangay Junction here was
nabbed early morning at a checkpoint at Sto. Marukdot near his residence
allegedly in possession of a gun and bullets by troops of the Kalinga
Provincial Intelligence Branch, Provincial Public Safety Company led Senior
Insp. Larry Pinkihan and Highway Patrol Team headed by Chief Insp. David
Brilliantes of the Kalinga Police Provincial.
Mabanag was traveling from Katabbogan, bound to Barangay Junction.
When he was about to approach a polic e checkpoint, he maneuvered
his motorcycle to evade the cops but he
was stopped.
A Cal .40 pistol marked STAR with one magazine and seven inserted and seven bullets were confiscated
from him.
When he was asked for documents on gun ownership, he could not
present any including the motorcycle he was using.
The motorcycle was brought to the Highway Patrol Group
office for verification while Mabanag and the confiscated firearm were brought
to Kalinga Police Provincial Office.
A case against the suspect for illegal possession of firearm was
prepared for filing in court.
