BAGUIO CITY -- From
whatever angle you look at it, the whole span of the Abanao-Magsaysay-Harrison
pedestrian overpass now promises to be spick-and-span as the Rotary Club of
Baguio and allied groups vowed to maintain it as an environmental thrust on the
club’s 75th anniversary.
The Mother Club of all
Rotary chapters in the city began cleaning up the busy overpass evening
of Sept. 29, on the heels of its forging a memorandum of agreement for the
facility’s adoption through club president Elizabeth Rillera-Fernandez, mayor
Mauricio Domogan and district engineer Ireneo Gallato of the Department of
Public Works and Highways.
The initial spruce up
virtually became a community effort with support from the Rotakids and Rotary
Anns, members of the Interact Club of the Baguio City national High School, the
Rotary Community Corp. , Rotaract and Interact clubs of barangay Lucnab,
members of AZCKO, officers of the Baguio Fire Department, businessman Michael
del Rosario and friends of Rotary.
Village chiefs Michael
Karl Flores of Kabayanihan and Peter Wasing of Lower Quirino Hill, both members
of RCB, also led their constituents in the clean-up.
Fernandez said
cleaning will be done quarterly, and to include painting of the mains
structural features with the latest pollutant-absorbing paint.
The environmental
project will be in effect until next June.
