BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The provincial government here recently organized the Provincial Infrastructure Audit Team to inspect and assess infrastructure projects and public buildings in the province to see to it that they are up to standards and safe for public use.
Gov. Leonard Mayaen issued Executive Order No. 02 S. 2013 in compliance to a DILG memorandum calling for immediate inspection and assessment of all local government infrastructure projects and public buildings to determine their strength, rigidity, and resistance to wind and seismic movements.
”The country lies along a number of fault lines and hosts of several active volcanoes rendering it prone to earthquakes that pose grave and serious threat to lives and properties, thus the need for inspections,” the EO said.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer retired Col. AnacletoTangilag said regular physical inspection and assessment of public infrastructures and buildings is a precautionary measure to forestall possible loss of lives and properties brought by disasters.
Tangilag said members of the PIAT are now inspecting provincial government buildings in this capital to be followed by provincial buildings located in the other municipalities.
He said the municipal government should also create their respective infrastructure assessment teams to inspect their respective buildings.
The PDRRMO said PIAT findings and recommendations will be submitted to the provincial governor and the DILG for appropriate action.
Composing the PIAT are provincial engineer Arsenio Donga-el as chairman; Mt. Province district engineer Wilbur Likigan - co-chairman; PDRRMO Tangilag – vice-chairman, and with members coming from Provincial Engineering Office, DPWH, DILG and Bureau of Fire Protection. -- PIA
