1 dead
in Marcos Highway accident
TUBA, Benguet – One died when a
delivery van rammed into a tree along the tricky Marcos Highway here
afternoon of May 26.
Police said the driver of the lowland-bound
Isuzu container van with plate number XMP 359 loaded with appliance named after
Jollimagic Inc. of Dagupan City, in Pangasinan lost control, swerved to the
right and rammed a tree.
Passenger Alfred Escano, 28, from Urdaneta,
also in Pangasinan, was immediately killed upon impact while Edwin Javier, 40,
also from Urdaneta was rushed to a hospital for various injuriers.
The driver—Mark Javier, 33,-- from San Carlos
City, also in Pangasinan was unhurt.
Probers said Javier could not engage his
brakes, prompting him to go to the road’s shoulder and ram the vehicle into a
tree.
Last week, another lowland bound truck
fell into a 20-foot ravine in Kennon Road.
All three passengers survived and were rushed
to a hospital for treatment.
Girl
knifes mother to death
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A girl is now under
custody of the Welfare Department after she knifed her mother to death May 25
around 9 p.m. here at Dreamland Subdivision, Barangay Pico.
Police identified the victim as Maria Rizza
A. Cabautan, 44, married, cashier at Philippine Science High, San Vicente,
Baguio City, while the suspect was her daughter.
Investigation disclosed the victim and the
suspect had a heated argument inside their house at the place of incident when
the mother prevented the latter from going out.
During the confrontation, the suspect took a
knife and swung hitting her mother’s abdomen, after which, she fled and went to
the house of her boyfriend along Marcos Highway, Baguio City.
The suspect revealed the incident to her
boyfriend’s relatives who immediately reported the incident to the DSWD.
The victim who had laceration on her
abdomen and bite marks on her right arm, was brought to La Paz Funeral Homes
for autopsy.
Lady
sweet talks lotto watcher, runs away with P3k, valuables
BAGUIO CITY – A lotto booth located here
along Naguillan Road, Lourdes Extension of valuables and P3,000 by a lady who
sweet talked a watcher of the outlet.
Police said about 1:30 p.m. on May 29, at the
lotto booth located in Guzon Marketing building, an unidentified female who
pretended to be a dealer of mobile phones and laptop went to the booth and
deceived the victim who was then busy working.
The victim identified as Eden Gali told
police the thief entered the booth and took the Acer laptop of Karl Dela Cruz
operator/manager of the lotto booth, a Cherry Mobile cell phone of the victim
and the collection money.
Responding personnel of PS-1, BCPO scoured
the area for possible arrest of the suspect but turned negative result.
Farmer
shot inside his house
BANGUED, Abra
– A 58-year old farmer died after he was repeatedly shot by still
unidentified persons who suddenly broke into his house and shot him while he
was watching television at barangay Damoyco, Peñarrubia town last Friday night.
Senior Superintendent Benjamin B. Lusad,
director of the Abra provincial police office, identified the fatality as
Severo Damasen Lanas, 58, married, farmer and a resident of the above mentioned
place.
Initial investigation conducted by elements
of the Peñarrubia municipal police station disclosed that the victim was
watching television inside his house when the perpetrator/s forcedly opened the
window of the kitchen and used it as entry and while inside shot the victim
several times that caused his instantaneous death.
Lusad disclosed the victim sustained four (4)
gunshot wounds, one on his head and three (3) on his Body, that caused him to
expire while being rushed to the Abra provincial hospital by his relatives and
responding police personnel.
Elements of the scene of the crime operation
(SOCO) team processed the crime scene and recovered four (4) fired cartridges,
two (2) deformed slugs and one (1) unfired ammunition of a Caliber .9mm.
He pointed out motive of the shooting
incident remains unknown as investigation is still going on.
The remains of the victim was brought by his
relatives to a local funeral parlor.

Benguet Corp. workers electrocuted, one dies
ITOGON, Benguet – Two workers of Benguet
Corp. at Barangay Virac here were accidentally electrocuted around 11:30 a.m.
on May 28.
PO2 Julius Changao assigned at Virac police
station received a telephone call from Benguet Corp. informing that two of
their personnel were accidentally electrocuted at Virac and brought by their
co-employees to Benguet General Hospital, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Victims were identified as Marcos C. Atayan,
58 of Bakakeng Central, Baguio city and VictorinoCalicdan, 57 of Virac, both
employed by BC as electricians.
Calicdan died as a result of injuries while
Atayan was still confined at BeGH at press time.
Investigation disclosed about 11:05 a.m., the
two were inside the sub-station at Batuang, Virac fixing electrical wires that supplies power
going to Balatoc Mines when they were accidentally electrocuted.
Son
reunited with father in jail
BAGUIO CITY -- Federico “Eric” Oliveros, 31
son of a so-called “Baguio City drug lord and godfather of organized local
drug groups,” got busted anew May 21, some 10 months after his latest
acquittal.
Father and son are now at the city jail.
Eric was arrested at New Lucban here by
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency– Cordillera agents with about 2.18 grams of
shabu valued at PP19,000.
Charges for illegal drugs will be filed
against the younger Oliveros, of San Carlos Heights, Irisan here was
previously wanted for frustrated murder

worker hacked to death by minor for trying to rape sister
VILLAVICIOSA, Abra – A certain John Paul
Barbero, 29, Social Welfare employee of Barangay Ap-apaya here was hacked to
death by a minor May 28 for allegedly trying to rape his older sister.
A police report said at about 11 a.m.
that day, in So. Sitio Las-ud, Barangay Bollilising, the victim arrived at
the tobacco curing barn of the alleged hacker’s family.
The victim allegedly attempted to rape the
21-year-old- sister of the minor identified as Reyma B. Segundo, casual
employee of Medicare Hospital and a resident of the place.
This prompted the minor to get a bolo and
hacked Barbero on different parts of his body resulting to his death.
The minor was arrested by responding
Villaviciosa police and recovered the bolo used in the crime.
Mechanic
in jail for carnap of fireman’s jeep
SABLAN, Benguet --- A mechanic is now in jail
for carnapping on May 28 the jeep of a fireman in in San Fernando City, La
Union.
Police said Sablan and San Fernando
police intercepted here at Barangay Banangan an Owner jeep driven by Mauro
Larunag Jr., 43 of Salacsac, Kayapa,
Nueva Vizcaya and resident Happy Homes, Quirino Hill, Baguio City.
This after police were alerted the vehicle
was carnapped that day in Barangay 1,
San Fernando City.
Police asked Larunag after failing to produce
the vehicle’s documents.
Investigation disclosed the carnapped vehicle
was owned by Wihelm P. Daus y Pascual, of the Bureau of Fire Protection
regional office in Bauang La Union.
Pascual was reportedly earting in a
restaurant when he noticed that said vehicle was missing at the parking area
prompting him to report at the police station.
The suspect and vehicle were turned over to
San Fernando police.
Abatan
business establishment burned
BUGUIAS, Benguet – The building of a
certain Leonardo D. Alimondo, 50 of
Barangay Abatan here was burned around 9:30 a.m. on May 28 with dmages
estimated at P500,000.
Police said fire started at the kitchen at
the second floor that immediately spread due to combustible materials.
Buguias and nearby town of Mankayan firemen,
police and concerned citizens put out the fire an hour later.
No one was injured in the incident.
Bontoc
bar robbed
BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Holyghost
Extension Bar here at Poblacion was robbed May 28 by still unidentified thieves
who took cash of P3,445 and nine packs of cigarettes worth P720.
Police said thieves used a bolt cutter to
destroy the steel window of the establishment where the bar of Ryan
Lao-agueyNayasang, 30 was located.

BAGUIO CITY –A certain Mark Anthony
AlmadrigoBayuga, 27, here of MariaBasa, Pacdal was mauled inside a bar by
Robert John Illana Gabitan,20, of Purok. 8, Upper Km. 5, AsinRoad on May 29.
Investigation revealed that the suspect and
the victim had a drinking session at Franz MhelVideoke Bar here at 2nd Kayang St.
After two hours, the victim decided to go
home and askedfor cash advance from the suspect who was reportedly his employer
which resulted in a heated argument.
The suspect chased the victim outside the
establishment and mauled him causing injuries on his face.
Responding barangay tanod and concerned
citizens arrested the suspect and turned-over to police..

friends drinking liquor challenged, one stabbed
BAGUIO CITY – Police are trying to identify a
man who allegedly stabbed and injured a certain Melvin Sarga, 24, here of
Zamora St.
A police report said the stabbing incident
happened at about 6:15 p.m. of May 26, inside Pasong Bar 2, Palangdao Building,
Kalantiao Extension.
Investigation disclosed that while Sarga and
his friend were drinking liquor at said establishment, the unidentified suspect
challenged the victim to a fist fight but the latter ignored it.
The suspect left the area and came back armed
with a knife and suddenly stabbed the victim.
Sarga sustained injuries on his forehead and
right forearm and was brought to SLU Hospital for medical treatment.
Victim was released after medical treatment.
Responding police recovered the knife used by the suspect.

apartment unit ransacked of valuables

A case of robbery transpired here at Upper
Cabinet Hill, on complaint of Klarish Dayle Incencio, 19, resident of said
place.
Investigation disclosed Inocencio left her
apartment for a review class.
Upon returning home, she discovered that the
main door of the house was forcibly destroyed and her personal belongings were
taken by unidentified culprits.
Taken from here apartment were
an Acer laptop worth P20,000, Samsung Galaxy cell phone
worth P12,000, Samsung MP4 player vaolued at P8,000.00, necklace, and pair
of earrings worth P10,000 and flat iron.

man nabbed for illegal gun
BANGUED, Abra – Police arrested on May 26
Renato Bayquen, 24, here of Barangay Bacsil-Angad for violation of Comelec gun
ban.
Investigation disclosed that while Bangued
police were conducting mobile patrol, they chanced upon the suspect aboard a
motorcycle.
The team stopped the suspect and noticed a
gun tucked on his waist prompting them to arrest the latter.
Confiscated from Bayquen was a Cal. 45 pistol
loaded with five bullets.
Bulanao
public market razed
BULANAO, Kalinga – The Bulanao Public Market
particularly at the wagwagan and slipper area was razed by fire on May 26.
Police and and Bureau of Fire Protection
personnel responded immediately contained the fire.
No victim was reported injured during the
incident and the cost of damage is still to be determined.
Investigation is ongoing on cause of the
fire.
Thief
runs away with i-phone, P4,00 cash in Lagawe heist
LAGAWE, Ifugao – A thief forcibly entered the
home of Noemi Lindawan Madangeng here in in SitioCuta, Poblacion West and
carted away May 26, an i-phone worth P27,000 and P4,000 cash.
Police said the unidentified suspect gained
entry at the house by placing lumber that served as his ladder going to the
veranda located at the second floor and opened the unbolted sliding glass door.
Police found a pair of black slippers
allegedly owned by the thief.
Thieves
enter doctor’s house; cart away valuables
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A doctor lost his
valuables to thieves who entered his house here at SitioLamtang, Barangay Puguis
and used a taxicab to carry the items on May 25.
The doctor, identified as Isagani Garin,
38 complained unidentified robbers gained entry to the house by forcibly
destroying the grills of the back window and took the following items: 32” Vivo
flat television worth P32,000, jewelry worth P45,000, pearl necklace worth
P8,000, IPad worth P16,000, 3 wrist
watches worth P24,000 and 6 pieces new ladies underwear worth
P2,000.
Investigation disclosed around 11:30 p.m. of
the same day, a neighbor who passed by the victim’s house heard a dog
barking and noticed a taxi cab bearing Plate No. AYT 664 and with “PALMA ST”
markings on its body parked on the highway 25 meters away from the place of
incident and the driver seemed to be repairing something.
As she continued to go home, she saw two male
persons carrying a television so she shouted at them to call their attention
but the duo quickly loaded the television in the taxi and sped off towards
Longlong, La Trinidad.
After a few minutes, the victim arrived and
their neighbor informed him about the incident.
The victim hurriedly checked their house in
disarray that prompted him to report the same to the police.
Owner
sleeps, finds car smashed, battery stolen
BONTOC, Mountain Province – The battery of a
vehicle worth P3,000 parked at the garage of the owner in Sitio Bilibid,
Barangay Caluttit, was stolen by still
unidentified suspect.
Police said the vehicle’s left
window (driver’s side) was smashed by thieves.
The owner of the vehicle identified as Roberto
Lawagan, 59, noticed the theft when he was about to use the vehicle morning of
May 25.
Illegal
logging site discovered
BUGUIAS, Benguet – Police discovered an
illegal logging site and confiscated 735 board feet of illegally sawn pine
lumber P22,050 on May 25.
Police, led by Insp Valdez found the site in
Baculongan Sur, Buguias that stretched along the river from Sitio Balintag to
SitioBila, Baculongan Sur.
The said items were hauled to the Benguet
provincial police headquarters at Camp Dennis Molintas, Bangao, Buguias for
turnover to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Losing
poll bet jailed for firearms
BACNOTAN, La Union — A losing candidate for
municipal councilor here was arrested by the operatives of the Criminal Investigation
and Detection Group after allegedly yielding three firearms and ammunition in
this town May 24.
A belated report from the Bacnotan Police
Station said lawmen swooped down on the house of OnofreValmonte, 60, in
Barangay Baroro, here around 5:30 a.m. last May 24, and seized an Armscor
.45-caliber pistol; a 9mm pistol; a .38-caliber revolver; and assorted
ammunition.
The raid was covered by a warrant issued by
the local court and Valmonte was jailed for failure to immediately come up with
a bail of P80,000.
