Farmers nabbed with P1 million marijuana
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Two marijuana suppliers, who hail from Bakun, Benguetwere busted recently with almost one million pesos worth of marijuana here at Barangay Cruz.

 During the joint, sting operation, agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in  Region 1 and Cordillera arrested Olibrum Canias, 30 and J-pee Pacuz, 19, both farmers of Sitio Barbarit,Barangay Bagu in  Bakun.

Pacuz, also a resident of Alapang, La Trinidad, a few meters away from the entrapment site, tried to mislead the drug law enforcement officers by claiming he was only 17 years old, a juvenile.

But further investigations revealed he was an adult.

The PDEA, in a report, said suspects traded four, large blocks of dried marijuana to a PDEA – CAR agent, who posed as buyer during July 5  around 10:30 p.m. 

The seized marijuana blocks weighed 4.32 kilos with  market value of P951,115.

The blocks of marijuana were wrapped in newspaper and placed in a carton.

Cases for illegal drugs were filed against Canias and Pacuz.

Man arrested for frustrated homicide
BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested here July 5 John Baliling, 38 of Lower Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet for frustrated homicide.

He was arrested near the Baguio Cathedral Church, Upper Session Road by virtue of a warrant issued by  Edgardo B. Diaz de Rivera, Jr., acting presiding judge of  Regional Trial Court, 1st Judicial Region.

Baliling is now detained at city jail.

Girl dies after being bumped by Land Cruiser
ATOK, Benguet – Charges for reckless imprudence resuting to homicide were filed against the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser pickup truck last week for bumping a 5-year-old girl which resulted to her death. 

A police report said the incident happened July 9 at km 58 Barangay Calasipan here when the truck driven by EfrenSapalong, 24 of Pulag, Gambang, Bakun town bumped Reigina Ventura Gante, 5, pre-sSchool student of Calasipan Elementary School, Atok.
                
Investigation disclosed the victim and his father were at the side of a road curve when the victim suddenly ran to the opposite side where her mother was waiting for them but was bumped by the  vehicle going up to Buguias.

The victim was rushed by her parents to Atok District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The driver was jailed while the vehicle was impounded by police.

Miner nabbed for stabbing three men
BAGUIO CITY – A miner is now in jail after stabbing three young men here on July 8 at around 2:30 a.m. in front of Padis Point, Fernando G. Bautista Street.

Police identified victims as Israel Pullay, 18, student, of Upper Tabuk, Kalinga and Denver Degay, 22, both of Tabukkalinga and residents here of Barangay Holy Ghost Extension and Bernardo Betao Jr.,  24, of Lubuagan, Kalinga and resident here of Barangay Honeymoon.

They were allegedly stabbed by Joel Bay-ong, 23, of Hingyon, Ifugao and resident here of Purok 5, Barangay Kias.

Investigation disclosed ,  the three victims were about to go home after coming from a drinking spree at the said bar when one of them had a verbal altercation with the suspect leading to a fistfight.

The two other victims tried to pacify but in doing so, the suspect swung his knife several times against the victims.

Pullay sustained multiple injuries on his body, Bernardo Betao was slashed on his right cheek and back of his head while Degay was slashed on his right hand and  below his right eye.

Responding police of Station 7 arrested the suspect while the knife six inches reportedly used in the incident was turned over to them by the bar security guard of the pub identified as Rex Licos Valdez.

The victims were brought to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Hooded men hold up Buguias gas station
BUGUIAS, Benguet – Two hooded men held up a gas station here on July 8 at around 5 a.m. and fled with P14,000 cash.
  
A police report said the gas refilling station was owned by Florante Astudillo located at Bad-ayan, Baculongan Sur.
                
Investigation disclosed the men held up gasoline attendant Harold Andayan, 19, a resident of Kapangan, Central Buguias.

The perpetrators, one of them armed with a shotgun reportedly fled on foot towards Central Buguias, Benguet. 

3 trike riders hit Halsema pavement; one dies, 2 hurt  
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A man died while two of his companions after the motorcycle they were riding in crashed on a road pavement here along km 3 of the Halsema Highway on July 8 at about 2:45 p.m.

A police report said the blue Euro motorcycle without plate number driven by Melchor Cadap Habit, 20, of AD 22, Barangay Central Buyagan here with his two passengers identified as Nicasio Cadap Gateley, 26 and Reynaldo Nixon Banitocas,  20, both of Monamon, Bauko, Mountain Province collided with a Toyota Tamaraw FX taxi owned by Rosemando Laduan of Tiptop, Ambuklao Road, Baguio City and driven by Bartolome B. Banasan, 19, of Bakakeng Norte, Baguio City.

The report said the motorcycle was headed towards Poblacion, La Trinidad when it crashed on the road pavement and veered to the opposite lane where it bumped the left front portion of the taxi that was heading towards Baguio.

The three motorcycle passengers were brought by the taxi driver to Baguio General Hospital wherein Habit was declared dead on arrival hile the other two passengers were confined for medical treatment.
The driver of the FX taxi voluntarily surrendered to La Trinidad police while the motorcycle was impounded.

Two civilians arrest thief 
BAGUIO CITY – The vigilance of two civilians led to the arrest of a thief here on July 8 at about 10:30 a.m.

A police report said a vehicle battery owned by  Hamilton Ngiao, 42, businessman and resident of Upper P. Burgos here was taken by Randy Alos, 29, miner of Ucab, Itogon, Benguet without the consent of the owner.
                
Investigation disclosed the suspect tood the battery from the victim’s maroon Mitsubishi jeep while it was parked unattended along P. Burgos road.

While in the act, he was chanced upon by Allen Batuyog and Khalip Bantulong, both residents of P. Burgos who were passing by.

The two confronted the suspect and later turned him over to responding personnel of Police Station 2.

Thieves cum carpenters rob victim of P77,000
BAGUIO CITY – Beware of hiring thieves who sideline as carpenters. 
                
A resident here lost P77,000 worth of gadgets to two thieves cum carpenters on July 8 at around 5 p.m.

Police identified the victim as Marico Banasan, resident of Gold Street Upper Quezon Hill here who was reportedly robbed of her belongings by Cacho Zarate and Erly Bismonte both residents of km 3 Stone Hill, La Trinidad Benguet.

Prior to the incident, the two suspects were reportedly hired by Rey Baquiran, owner of the apartment to renovate the roof of the building.

Left to themselves, the two suspects entered the room of the victim located at the 2nd floor where they took a Lenovo Laptop worth P35,000, Sony Vios laptop worth P25,000, Ipod touch 5 Apple worth P17,000 and an Olympus digi-cam worth P5, 000.
  
Police have launched a manhunt to locate the suspects.

Man on way home shot dead by trike-riding gunmen  
SAN JUAN, Abra – Two men aboard a motorcycle shot dead a man on his way home here on July 8 at around 11 a.m.
               
Police said the incident transpired at Barangay Supiil wherein one Rogelio Vergara Timbreza, 58, farmer, local resident was shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

Police investigation disclosed the victim was riding on his tricycle when two male persons on board a blue XRM motorcycle shot him several times.

Responding police immediately brought Timbreza to St. Theresa Wellness Center, Sitio Ducam, Barangay Mudiit, Dolores, Abra, but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Nonito G. Barbero.

Police retrieved four fired cartridge cases of Cal.45 from the crime scene

Motive has yet to be determined as investigation is still going on.

3 wanted persons detained in Apayao
LUNA, Apayao – Three wanted persons were arrested by police here last week after they were issued warrants by Judge Victor A. Dalanao of the Regional Trial Court Branch 26, Apayao.

Senior Supt. Albertlito Garcia, provincial police director said EudiceBongalon, 26, meat vendor here of Barangay Quirino was nabbed afor serious physical injuries.

Also arrested in their respective homes in nearby Pudtol by chief of police Senior Insp.TyponAcod  and his men was Laura Austria, 49 years old, of Cabatacan, Pudtol.

Austria was charged for estafa. Lorenza Dela Cruz, 35, of San Luis, Pudtol was also arrested for attempted homicide.

All 3 wanted persons were detained at respective police stations.

Two young men stabbed after going out from bar
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Two young men were stabbed here along km 3 Barangay Pico around 10 p.m. by a still unidentified man.

Police identified victims as Jonathan LumiresEban, 21 and Bryan BentresZarate, 19, both residents of Sadag, Bahong here.

Investigation revealed that prior to the incident; the victims who were under the influence of liquor went to drink liquor at the SEM-R Videoke Bar located along km3.

However, they were not allowed because the establishment was under renovation.

As a result, the victims and the unidentified suspect who was present at that time, engaged in a heated argument.

After the altercation, the victims went out of the bar but the suspect followed and suddenly stabbed them. Eban sustained stab wounds on the abdomen and left side of his body while Zarate was stabbed on his back and abdomen.

They rushed themselves to the Benguet General Hospital while the suspect fled to unknown direction after the incident.

Police immediately responded but the said establishment was closed.

Bocap shot dead in ricefield 
LAGAYAN, Abra – A barangay chief here was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman on June 6 around 5:30 a.m. here.

Police identified the victim as Trium Pajo Donato, 42.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was on his way home from his rice field when he was fired upon by still unidentified person resulting to his death.

The gunman immediately fled to unknown direction after the incident.

Police recovered 20 fired cartridges of Cal. 7.62mm rifle at the crime scene.

Man stabs nephew who suffers serious injuries
VILLAVICIOSA, Abra – A man is now being hunted by police after he stabbed his nephew who suffered serious injuries.    
Police investigation disclosed that at about 10 pm. of June 6, victim Mark Carlito Bumagat, 22 and his cousin Jovit Rogecio Villon were eating at their house in Barangay Lumaba when  Jerry Rogecio, 40, the victim’s uncle, farmer who was drunk came.

He took a knife and without any apparent reason stabbed the victim on his neck and left shoulder.

The victim was brought to Villaviciosa Medicare Community Hospital for medical treatment but later transferred to Seares Memorial Hospital, Bangued, Abra for further medical treatment.

The suspect immediately fled after the incident and now the subject of manhunt operation. Weapon used was not recovered.

Taxi driver held up; P3K, cell phone taken from him
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A taxi driver was robbed of his earnings here worth P3,000 and his cellphone by three still unidentified hold-uppers.

Police said the incident  happened around 10:35 p.m. of June 6 in Dreamland Subdivision, Barangay Pico.
The victim was identified as Rufino Aquino, 37 of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur and resident of Barangay Honeymoon, Baguio City. 

Investigation disclosed the victim was driving his Toyota Tamaraw FX taxi when flagged down by the three males in Baguio City who requested to be ferried to Dreamland.

Upon reaching the place, one of the hold-uppers got out from the taxi and proceeded at the driver side door while the other one seated at the driver’s back part locked him strangled him with a seat belt while poking  a Cal. .38 hand gun at him.

This while one of their companions took his collection of P2,700.00, his wallet containing P300 and Cherry mobile cellphone worth P800.00.

The suspects immediately fled after the incident.

Man arrested for trying to shoot his dog
BAGUIO CITY – A man was arrested for trying to shoot his dog. 

Police said on June 6, Insp. Gabriel Isican and his men assisted by a SWAT team led by Chief Insp. John Paul Bayongasan and Chief Insp. Nachor Baucas responded to a report of indiscriminate firing that transpired at 10:12 p.m. in Barangay Upper Dagsian.

Investigation disclosed that suspect Roberto Las Marias, 58 fired upon his own dog hitting the window glass of a certain Angelo’s house.

Confiscated from Las Marias was a “paltik” handgun loaded with five bullets.

Las Marias was subjected to paraffin test while a case against him was prepared.
