BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan — Residents of this
town are getting all excited about one of the mayor’s bids to put Bayambang in
the world map of pop culture.
Mayor Ricardo Camacho
bared over the weekend his plan to get residents involved in a bid for a
Guinness World Record for the “longest barbeque” in April next year.
Preparations are
already being made for the municipality’s bid to establish a 7.7-kilometer-long
barbeque to break, hopefully, the 6.2-km feat done in Turkey in 2010.
This endeavor will be
the highlight of the “Malangsi Fishtival” on April 5, 2014, which is also the
celebration of Bayambang’s 400th founding anniversary.
The newly elected
barangay officials from all 77 villages here have already committed their
unconditional support for all the activities wrapped up in the festival by
signing a manifesto.
Freshwater fish
species like catfish, mudfish, “tilapia” and “gurami” will be the featured barbeque
of the world-record breaking bid.
Based on the plan
approved by Camacho, the barbeque grill will start in Wawa and extend through
to Barangays Telbang Buayaen, Poblacion Zone III, Zone V, Tamaro, Tambac,
Nalsian Norte, and down to Nalsian Sur. -- LBI
