PRO-COR awards medals to 6 cops; MOA with UB signed

CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Eight Cordillera cops were with the Medalyang Sugatang Magiting and Kagalingan that coincided with signing of memorandum of agreement here with the guest of honor and speaker from the University of Baguio.

Dr. Lloyd V. Ordoña, UB vice president for administration and research congratulated the awardees enhancing reputation of Cordillera police.

 First to be awarded was SPO3 Eusebio B. Bodonia of the Abra Police Provincial Office with the Medalyang Sugatang Magiting and cash for gallantry in risking his life resulting to injury while pursuing two suspects.

Other PNP personnel given the Medalyang Kagalingan were Senior Insp. Laurence Bautista, Insp. Leonard A. Danasen, SPO3 Rodel T. Abnasan, SPO2 Francis C. Pawe, SPO1 Paulino A. LubosJr, PO3 John Michael T. Castillo, and PO2 Geoffrey B. Bantule.

 The awarding ceremony was followed by the signing MOA on the community enhancement survey between regional police director Chief Supt. Isagani R. Nerez, PRO-COR regional director, and the University of Baguio represented by Dr. Urdoña.

 It was agreed that PRO-COR will provide the needed materials for the reproduction of survey questionnaires and other incidental expenses in the implementation of the survey, while UB will implement the survey; gather, encode, analyze, and interpret the data; and provide report reflecting the results.

 “I commend the PRO-COR, his staff and the research team for efforts exerted in making this initiative a reality. The University of Baguio joins your journey to achieve your vision 2030. A productive PRO-COR described as “a highly capable, effective and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place to live, work, and do business.” Dr. Ordoña said.

72-year-old father stabs own son

BANGUED, Abra- A 72- year old father  was arrested last week after he allegedly stabbed his own son whom he accused of stealing his rice grains, police said. 

Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, Abra provincial director, identified the suspect as Emiliano Tongloy Binnong, while the victim  was Banjo Carpio Binnong, 34, son of the suspect, both farmers and residents of Sitio Ololingen,Laplapog, Villaviciosa, Abra.

 Police gathered that the father confronted his  son regarding the two missing sacks of rice grains inside their house when suddenly an intense argument ensued between them that forced the father to stab his son twice in his stomach using a dagger.

 Villaviciosa police who responded immediately arrested Emiliano while his son was rushed to the Villaviciosa Medicare Center for medical treatment but was later transferred to Abra Provincial Hospital for further medication.

Pharmacist jailed for punching lady therapist

BAGUIO CITY – A male pharmacist was arrested last week after he punched the face of a lady physical therapist here at Cabinet Hill.

Senior Supt. Jesus D. Cambay, Jr., city police director, identified the suspect as Joseph Ian Tobias Gines, 26, while the victim was Sarah Vergara Malicdan, 38, both residents of Cabinet Hill.

Cambay said the victim asked the suspect to call his father for them to talk reportedly regarding the parking of a vehicle in front of their house but instead, he called his mother and had a conversation.
During the discussion the suspect kept on interrupting until the supposed conversation led to an intense argument that prompted the suspect to push and punch the victim’s face several times which inflicted injuries on her.

Responding personnel of Police Station 3 immediately arrested the suspect who is now under custody of said police station while the victim was brought to the SLU-Hospital, Baguio City for medical treatment.

Farmer involved in fistfight nabbed

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao, a farmer was also arrested because of his involvement in a fistfight which occurred after a heated argument due to an old grudge here at San Jose National High School. 

The victim Napoleon Bajado Tarengteng, 40 was drying his corn product at the school ground when the suspect Jessie Adriano Barut, 36, both farmers and residents of Barangay San Jose, confronted the victim regarding their previous misunderstanding that led to a fist fight.

A teacher and a tanod pacified them but, the suspect swung his knife at the victim, who fell on the ground and was subsequently mauled by the suspect.

Responding town policemen disarmed the suspect and placed him under arrest while the victim was rushed to the Potia District Hospital for medical treatment.

Top  9 drug pusher in Benguet nabbed

LA TRINJIDAD, Benguet -- Anti-narcotics agents nabbed a member of a drug ring, who is placed as no. 9 in the target list of drug personalities in Benguet province.

PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the suspect as James Barthon Gatawa, 32, of Puguis, La Trinidad, Benguet and Bad-ayan, Buguias, Benguet.

He is listed as ninth in the PDEA regional target list.

Gatawa is said to be a member of the Olsim drug group.

Last Feb. 26, around 2:15 p.m.,  anti-narcotics operatives of PDEA-Cordillera served a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Danilo Camacho Regional Trial Court Branch 62, La Trinidad, Benguet against Gatawa.

Gatawa’s warrant of arrest was issued for evading arrest during subsequent anti-drug raids by operatives of PDEA in a liquor bar and apartment unit in La Trinidad, maintained by his group as drug dens where shabu is used and sold.

"The anti-drug operation against the Olsim Drug Group on Nov, 21 and 22, 2013 resulted in the arrest of its drug group leader during simultaneous buy-bust operations," Cacdac said.

The Olsim drug group is mostly composed of the drug group leader’s relatives and supplies illegal drugs to students, truck drivers, vegetable porters in cahoots with the Mandu Gang, a group of pickpockets and shoplifters.

Gatawa was tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride or  shabu, the PDEA said.

Cordillera’s ‘most wanted drug personality’ nabbed

BAGUIO CITY -- Narcotics agents arrested a “most wanted drug personality”  identified as a certain Zenaida Bangcola y Mangandiri alias “Zenai”, 36 here at Sumulong Street, Holy Ghost Proper Feb. 27 for drug pushing.

Bangcola, a widow and native of Lumbayanague, Lanao Del Sur and resident of Holy Ghost.

A Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency report said Bangcola, was a wanted drug dealer in the Cordillera Region, who earlier faced charges for trying to bribe a PDEA agent in exchange for her liberty and that of a relative earlier who were nabbed by the unit for shabu sale and possession, in 2010.

Bangcola was arrested following warrant issued against her and a male co-accused, by Judge Antonio Reyes of the Regional Trial Court Branch 61, Baguio City, First Judicial Region.

The two reportedly evaded apprehension Dec. 4 last year when Baguio police  raided their residence at No. 306 Supitan, San Vicente, Baguio City, for grave drug law violations.

Confiscated then at their house were 5.42 grams of shabu estimated at 50,000 pesos worth and various drug paraphernalia.

Bangcola and her co-accused were reportedly able to evade arrest by throwing a grenade at police operatives.

11 wanted persons nabbed in Cordillera  

CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet --   Eleven wanted persons were arrested in the Cordillera last week.

Police nabbed a member of the Bedking/Alab Bolt Cutter/Acetylene Group or Kolokol Feb. 26, at SitioCamangaan, Barangay Tikey, Bokod, Benguet following arrest warrant issued by Gemma Theresa B. Hilario-Logronio, presiding judge, Municipal Trial Court, Angeles City, Pampanga for robbery among other violations.

Senior Supt. Rodolfo Azurin, Benguet police director, identified the suspect as Alexander Taw-eyBaganganaka “Alexander Tao-ey”, 52, of Pines Park, Lubas, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Other arrested persons were named as Ferdinand Cammagay Gamingan, 49, and a resident of Mangitit, Camp 7, Kennon Road, Baguio City for violence against women and children ; Joyce Singapan y Insong, 37, of Poblacion, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao for falsification of public document; Rex BergoniaTimbreza, 33,  driver who was arrested in his residence in Supiil, San Juan, Abra and Christopher Andres Vista, 34, of Pulot, Lagayan, Abra for murder.

 Two individuals were arrested for carnapping, identified as Soliman Gumawi Calpet, 21, of Banig, Tawang, La Trinidad and Glen Mangaoan Laoyan, 23, of Lower Tomay, La Trinidad.

 Six men were also nabbed for estafa in their homes. They were identified as Jeferson Abor y Chorping, 35, and Jason Pacray y Gayamo, 31, both of PerepinBato, Upper Pinget, Baguio City; Rene Baguio Bultron, 45, of Barangay Bontod, Palanas, Masbate City and resident of San Carlos Heights, Baguio City; Jonalet Victoria Torres, 26, of  Tocmo, Loakan, Itogon, Benguet. – Joanne Christine Mocay

6 arrested in Ifugao, Benguet

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet- One of the top most wanted persons in Ifugao and five others were arrested last week by police.    .

Senior Supt. AngelitoACasimiro, Ifugao police director identified the TMWP as Joey BotlongDulnuan, 31, of Tungngod, Lagawe, Ifugao who was nabbed after judge Ester PiscosoFlor of  Regional Trial Court, Ifugao issued hi arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, operatives of Hingyon, Mankayan and La Trinidad police  arrested five others named as Rey CajiganPinasig, 20, of Baguio City and Sunny DaguioUmondon, 22, a resident of Itogon for illegal firearms.\

Also arrested wereRodolfo Julian Mendoza, 44, and Marvin Libed Gumatic, 21,  of Banguingey, Tabio, Benguet for illegal mining.

James Bognadon, 21,  of Awwa, Piwong, Hingyon, Ifugao was also nabbed for  violation of Republic Act 7610 or protection against child abuse, exploitation and discrimination. -- Joanne Christine H. Mocay

Another Acetylene Gang member falls; seven others collared  

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- After arresting recently 14 members of the notorious Acetylene Gang, including its leader, police arrested another member of the gang and a notorious robbery syndicate Tuesday morning.

 The Acetylene Gang had been behind the series of heists on pawnshops and residences nationwide.

 Senior Supt. Jesus Cambay, Baguio City police director identified the suspect as Jaime Gambican y Calabawan “Koteng”, 52 of East Quirino Hill, Baguio for robbery.

A team of the Regional Intelligence Division and Baguio police arrested Gambican by after Judge Evelyn Cañete, assisting judge of Municipal Trial Circuit Court,  4^th Judicial Region, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan issued warrant for his arrest. Gambican later posted bail of P12,000.

 Gambican was listed as member of the Jepson Beligen Criminal Gang operating nationwide.

His group was responsible for robbing the Palawan Pawnshop main branch in Rizal Avenue, Barangay Masikap, Puerto Princesa on July 10, 2011 by digging a tunnel under the ground and destroying the vault and took away assorted jewelry and foreign currencies valued at P11, 427. 129.71.

 Seven other wanted persons also fell in the hands of the police last week. First to fall were two theft suspects  namely Roan Lyn Quirimit y Oliva, 20, who was arrested in his residence in Lower P. Burgos, Baguio City with a recommended bail of P100,000.00 and Joe Ana Bungay y Lo, 28, of Upper Quarry, Baguio City who was arrested inside the City Center Hotel, Session Road in the city. Bail was set at P18,000 for his release.  

 Two individual were also nabbed for theft: Shiela Bacani Gacusan, 22,  of La Union and a resident of Lower Rock Quarry, Baguio City who was arrested at the Satellite Market, Lower Rock Quarry, Baguio, witha recommended bail of P 50,000 and ZaizerianRillera Beltran, 20,  of Bonifacio Street, Baguio City who was arrested at Purple Comedy Bar, Upper Session Road, Baguio City.

A P80, 000 was set for his temporary liberty.

 Three others were also arrested: Roy Labot Daluz, 25, of Acop, Caponga, Tublay, Benguet for reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injuries; Richard Loyzaga Aquino, 30, of Gumamela St.,Central Fairview, Baguio City for robbery  and  Oric Limbawan Catolico who was arrested in Paracelis, Mountain Province for the adultery. – Joanne Christine Mocay

Man surrenders to cops after stabbing co-worker  

ITOGON, Benguet – A miner surrendered to police after stabbing his co-worker Feb. 23.

Chief Insp. Fernando Botangen of Itogon, identified the suspect as Rizaldy Bulhayon Bumadong Jr., 23, miner, of Nangumparan, Diadi, Nueva Viscaya and a resident  of 1^st Gate, Ucab, Itogon, Benguet while the victim was June Ampoc Fernandez, 23, of Namulditan, Hingyon, Ifugao and resident of same place.

Police said the victim and the suspect with their co-miners were drinking liquor inside their shanty when a heated argument ensued regarding their mining activities which resulted to a fistfight.

They were immediately pacified by their companions but suddenly, the suspect followed the victim outside the shanty and stabbed him on his chest.

 The suspect fled to unknown direction but was later surrendered by his relative Daniel Bulhayon to responding Itogon police while the victim was rushed by his companions to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for medical treatment. – Joanne Christine Mocay

Shabu ‘midddleman’ busted 

TUBA, Benguet -- A Baguio resident allegedly middleman between shabu suppliers in Cavite and shabu distributors in Baguio City and Benguet, who also sells drug paraphernalia, was busted here Feb. 28 at Barangay Tadiangan. 

Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region nabbed Ferdinand Cruz Jr. y Obras alias “Jay-R”, 30 during a noon entrapment operation.

Cruz Jr. sold about 2.15 grams of shabu and one glass pipe to an undercover agent of PDEA – CAR.

The confiscated illegal drugs, which were packed in three, heat-sealed, transparent, plastic sachets, were valued at P19,000.

 Urine sample taken from Cruz Jr. found presence of Methamphetamine,  a psychoactive drug like shabu.

A case for illegal drugs will be filed against Cruz.

Drug personality joins brother in jail

BUGUIAS, Benguet – A notorious illegal drug personality is now in jail, just like his bnrother for illegal drugs.

Efren Olsim y Guillao alias “Molkang”, a most wanted drug personality in the Cordillera Region and elder brother of the leader of the recently neutralized Olsim local drug group, was nabbed  March 1, three months and a week after he evaded apprehension in a raid on a drug den, in which he is the cooperator.

Olsim was nabbed at Barangay Loo here by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency– Cordillera Administrative Region and PDEA Special Enforcement Service including Buguias police.

 Olsim, 36, of Poblacion was tested and urine smaple yielded presence of methamphetamine, a psychostimulant like shabu.

 Olsim evaded capture  Nov. 21 last year when PDEA – CAR agents raided a liquor bar at Pico, La Trinidad allegency maintained as  drug den.

Confiscated then at the shabu den, which he co-operated, were five sachets of shabu and various drug paraphernalia.

 Efren Olsim’s younger brother, Julim, the leader of the Olsim drug group, was busted in sting operation also by PDEA – CAR agents, on Nov. 21, 2013, at Pico.

The Olsim group, a notorious and powerful local drug group operating mainly in La Trinidad and Buguias towns of Benguet was deemed neutralized last February 26.

Wanted drug personality captured

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A “most wanted drug personality in the Cordillera was arrested Feb. 26 a little over three months after he evaded arrest in drug den raid.

James Barthon Gatawa y Tumitit alias “Barton” was nabbed by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cordillera Administrative Region who served warrant of arrest against him at the Pico-Puguis road in La Trinidad.

Gatawa, 32, resident of Bad-ayan, Buguias, Benguet was a reportedly member of the notorious Olsim drug group.

Urine sample taken from Gatawa was positive for methamphetamine.

The drug group, reportedly mostly composed of its leader’s relatives, supplies shabu to students, truck drivers and vegetable porters.

The group is in cahoots with the “Mandu” gang, a group of pickpockets and shoplifters among others, a police report said.
