Luzon Hydro Corporation extended its passion for better ways to the Department of Education-Ilocos Sur Region in the recent generator set turnover at the agency’s division office in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

Committed to help its constituents, Luzon Hydro addressed need of Dep-Ed for a generator set to ensure their uninterruptible services through the power interruptions in the province.

Earlier this month, an 8-10 hours power interruption is being carried out in the province due to the maintenance activities of the San Esteban-Candon 69kv transmission line. Replacement of wooden poles and hardwares are being undertaken by the National Grid of the Philippines.

To maintain the smooth flow of services by the division office, a 7.5kva diesel generator set was formally turned over. Participated by the supervisors, principals and Dep-Ed officials, the agency attested that AboitizPower, mother company of Luzon Hydro is a ‘partner of development and a great benefactor’.

All in all, the division office serves about 448 elementary schools and 67 secondary schools in the province. That, excluding the private schools in the division.

Chris Faelnar, Senior Vice President of Luzon Hydro enthused the continuing commitments of the company in the development and upgrading of education within its host communities. As the community’s partner of choice, Luzon Hydro continues to spring initiatives to better serve its constituents. A wide-range of programs to further improve education, livelihood, health and environment are being implemented.

“We will further strengthen our CSR programs and this year 40% of our programs are allotted in education,” Faelnar relates.

Bulk of the company’s budget for CSR programs are allocated for education developments. To date, Luzon Hydro built two schools in partnership with the Aklat, Gabay at Aruga Foundation for kindergartens. The third kindergarten classroom is being built in Barangay Dalawa, Alilem.

The company also catered to about 144 high school and 38 college scholars. These projects are the continuing commitment of the company to help promote education in its host community.

Luzon Hydro operates the 70MW Bakun AC plant in Alilem, Ilocos Sur. The plant is one of the biggest run-of-river hydropower plant in the country.
