Schools in Hedcor and Luzon Hydro Corporation’s host communities in Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Mountain Province got a “face-lift” from the partner companies for the academic year.

Hedcor and Luzon Hydro tied up with schools in the annual Brigada Eskwela Program of the Department of Education to freshen-up the second home of our children.

Seven adopted schools from different host communities got a solid support from the companies for the improvement and preparation for the needs of the schools.

Minor repair works such as repainting, concreting of drainage canals, and improvement of sanitation and beautification works highlighted Hedcor and Luzon Hydro Brigada in partnership with the community members.

Ampusongan National High School in Bakun, Benguet, host of Hedcor’s 3.6MW Lon-oy and 5.9MW FLS plants now has an improved drainage system. The concreting of the drainage canal equips the school for the rainy season.

“Hedcor has always been accommodating to our school. Yearly, they join and support our school activities like Brigada.”  Lucia Esong, one of the school teachers said. The school is a recipient of a classroom now being used for Home Economics, a school clinic and a concrete stage from Luzon Hydro.

Host schools in La Trinidad and SablanBenguet received painting materials from the company for the week long maintenance. Partner schools in Sabangan, Mountain Province hosting the ongoing 14MW Sabangan Hydropower project undergone the same maintenance activities participated by Hedcor.

Meanwhile, Luzon Hydro leads the Brigada activities in Alilem, Ilocos Sur benefitting three schools. Construction of comfort rooms in the schools, fixing of wiring and some concreting works were implemented.

In total, the two companies shelled out close to 300,000 for the school opening preparation. This is the sixth year Hedcor and Luzon Hydro continuously participates in the yearly Brigada Eskwela since its conception in 2009.

Through the years, Hedcor and Luzon Hydro have been actively involved in educational programs of its host communities. Aside from the BrigadaEskwela, the companies also donate school buildings, grant scholarships and computer and school supplies donations.

Last year, Hedcor turned over three ‘Silid Pangarap’ to Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Davao providing new learning centers to learners. This is in partnership with the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation.

Social development goes hand in hand with Hedcor and Luzon Hydro’s quest for sustainable development. Through generating clean and renewable energy with its 21 run-of-river hydropower plants, the companies take a leap towards a better future.
