MPSPC presidential aspirants to present programs June 13

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- -- Four candidates to the presidency position of the Mountain Province State Polytechnique College (MPSPC) shall present their vision and programs for the College before members of the search committee at school auditorium on June 13.

Expected to face the public, students and faculty of  MPSPC on June 13 are Dr. Zacarias Baluscang, 56,  college professor of  Apayao State College and former president of said state college; Dr. Rexton Chakas,49, MPSPC Board  secretary and chairman of the Universityhood taskforce; Dr Marcelino Gaqui,60, MPSPC vice president for  research development and extension and Dr. Venus Lammawin,61, former president of  Kalinga  State College (KASC) and Camiguin Polytechnique  State College.

Baluscang who hails from Apayao wants MPSPC’s research and extension capabilities upgraded with functional framework for extension services.

Chakas who comes from Bontoc holds 21 years of service with MPSPC and lecturer of graduate school programs and BS Office Management considers the framework of the Philippine Development Plan 2011 to2016 and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Gaqui from Tadian holds 20 years of service with MPSPC and wants the school to gain recognition as a vibrant and dynamic Philippine educational center.

Lammawin, who traces her roots from Bontoc, wants MPSPC to be recognized internationally as a lead institution in human resource development, research and extension services.

Members of the search committee are chairperson Dr Emerlinda Roman, former president of the University of the Philippines and currently director of the International  Rice Research Institute; Dr Eduardo Bagtang, president of KASC and Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) representative; regional CHED director Luisa Valencia of CHED-CAR, Bishop Brent Alawas of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines (EDNP) as community representative, and Dr Beverly Ann Chaokas, representing the academic sector.

Following the search, the MPSPC Board of Trustees through votation shall choose who shall be the next MPSPC president.

Members of the  governing board are CHED Director Alex BrillantesJr, Senator Pilar Cayetano, chair of the Senate committee on higher education represented by Vivian Eustaquio;  regional director Marilyn  Sta Catalina of  the Dept of  Agriculture (DA -CAR); Dan Evert Sokoken, MPSPC faculty trustee; regional director Milagros  Rimando of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-CAR); regional director Julius Cesar Sicat of the Department of  Science and  technology (DOSTCAR); Officer in Charge Josephine Ngodcho of  MPSPC;  Congressman Roman Romulo, chair of the House committee on higher education represented by Sonia Daoas; Manuel Imatong, MPSPC alumni trustee; Daniel Besoy, MPSPC student trustee; and Ben Feken community trustee.


The next MPSPC president becomes the fourth head of the school after the late Dr Eufemia Lamen who died of vehicular accident November 30 last year after rendering eight months of MPSPC  leadership, Dr Nieves Dacyon from Tadian who became the president of Apayao State College, and Dr Marcelino Delson who retired from  office.
