Baguio City charter sports activities on this September

BAGUIO CITY - Various sports events, part of the 105th Baguio charter day celebration are set to bring in participants from as far as Mindanao.

This is according to city sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales, confirming that invitations have been sent out to interested sports groups.

Earliest in the schedule was the scrabble tournament on August 30 and 31, while on August 31 were the photography contest simultaneous with the mountain bike cross road challenge; golf tournament; bowling fest, and age group judo tournament, with different group organizers.

On Sept 6, the Cordillera region presented the 2014 taekwondo. On Sept. 7 (today), the Sports Karatedo Against Drug Abuse is done with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) as organizer.

The Milo Little Olympics Regional Elimination set on Sept. 5, 6, 7, 13 and 14; as the National Arnis Championship will be Sept. 19 and 20.

The Archery Age Group Competition is on Sept. 20 and 21, and the institutionalized Mr. Baguio competition is scheduled to go on at the Baguio Convention Center on Sept. 26.

The foot race dubbed, Straight to the Heart, an upshot of Baguio’s centennial theme of “Culture of Caring” shall be done on Sept. 28. Envisioned to be institutionalized as part of the Baguio Day celebration, with participation from all over the country, the fun run shall benefit the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center kidney patients. With Fr. Richard Justo, also a kidney failure patient, they have just received a P5,000 fund from St. Nicholas, Brent School students. Sponsor Shoshin Kinderhilfe through Julian Chees will shoulder the registration fees of jail inmates who will run the equivalent of 3, 5 and 10km within the city jail quadrangle. Other sponsors are being sought.

As an ender, the Baguio Sports for Peace Region 3-in-1 championship (Wrestling, Weightlifting and Muay Thai) shall be done on Sept. 26 to 28. –Julie G. Fianza
