BAGUIO CITY – The city
government will mount an art exhibit featuring the works of a German artist who
has been volunteering as landscaper for the city government.
City officials led by
Mayor Mauricio Domogan and city environment and parks management officer
Cordelia Lacsamana will inaugurate the week-long art display showcasing 63
artworks and drawings of Frank Georg on May 16 after the flag-raising
ceremonies at the City hall lobby.
Georg who uses ink
mixed with pencil and a combination of pointilism and woodcut prints in his
works will donate all the art pieces to the city government as his expression
of “gratitude to the city officialdom and populace for considering him as a
resident and good neighbor to all.”
Assistant CEPMO
officer Ruben Cervantes said that after the exhibit, the 63 artworks will be
permanently displayed at the Dominican Hill and Retreat House which Georg has
helped spruce up.
A well-traveled
painter, landscaper, food and beverage expert, gardener, apple/cherry/plum
propagator and vineyard worker, Goerg came to Baguio in 1998 and had since made
the city his residence.
He painted the biggest
“Last Supper” now displayed at the Baguio Cathedral along with 13 other smaller
pieces posted along the stairs leading to the church.
Lacsamana said they
decided to mount the exhibit to also thank Goerg for his contributions to the
city especially in improving the surroundings of City Hall and his other areas
of assignment including the post office park, the central island leading to
Burnham Park and the Dominican Hill.
“Much as we want to,
we cannot give him any salary for the services he has been rendering to us and
this exhibit to make known his wonderful artworks is but a small way we can
express our gratitude to him,” Lacsamana said.
Georg has been
volunteering with the city government since 2010 and has earned many citations
for his works.
