VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — President-elect
Rodrigo R. Duterte is eyeing Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Singson to head the League of
Governors of the Philippines in which the election of officers is set in July.
Gov, Singson learned
of Duterte’s plan when he and his father, former governor Luis “Chavit”
Singson attended the incoming president’s thanksgiving party in Davao City.
“I was surprised when
he said that he is eyeing me to lead the national governor’s league. He gave
his blessing but we have to wait until the election is done; However, I have
already consulted all governors and they signified their support of me,”
Singson said.
If elected as
president of the League of Governors of the Philippines, Singson said he will
prioritize programs on the welfare and development of the provinces, and easier
access and communication between the provincial governments and the national
government.
“If ever I am elected
as president of the governor’s league, I’m strongly supporting the federal form
of government in support to the agenda of incoming President Duterte,” he said.
Duterte, Singson
bared, has also presented his plans of development for Ilocos Region
during their meeting.
Among these plans are
the establishment of an economic zone in Salomague Port in Cabugao, an
international airport in Vigan City and the immediate release of RA 7171
tobacco funds.
“Through these projects, the economy of Ilocos Sur and
other provinces in the region are expected to boom,” he said
