BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The National
Food Authority provincial office said it has sufficient rice supply for
provincial consumers.
Giving updates to
government employees, NFA provincial economist Elmer Enaje said there is stable
rice supply as their office is allocated 43,000 bags of rice monthly as food
security for the province.
Enaje said of the
43,000 bags, 12,000 bags are maintained at the Bontoc bodega while the
remaining stocks are stored in warehouses in Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya that can
be hauled to the province to replenish whatever stocks disposed at the
Bontocbodega.
Enaje said aside from
the government rice, there is continuous inflow of commercial rice with
the good roads leading to and from the province. Commercial rice is
sourced from Region I or Region 2.
NFA data showed that
of the total rice consumption of the province, about 50 percent are commercial
rice, 13 percent are NFA rice while the remaining 37 percent comes from local
production.
The same data show
that people of the province consume an average of 1,460 bags of rice daily.
