LUNA,
La Union – A P65-billion coal power plant will be constructed in Barangay
Carisquis in this town.
The
project will generate 600 megawatts of electricity, Luna Mayor Victor Marvin
Marron said.
“The plant will be environment-friendly
because it will be equipped with modern technology called supercritical
pulverized coal power plant that prevents emission of polluted smoke,” Marron
said.
Marron said a series of public hearings
was conducted after the project proponent, Global Power Corp. and Vivant Corp.,
issued a letter of intent to put up the power plant this year.
Municipal and provincial officials unanimously
endorsed the project.
Marron said they were waiting for the
issuance of an environmental compliance certificate from the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources.
He said at least 3,000 workers would be
needed to build the power plant. The plant is expected to generate P500 million
in additional revenues from real property tax alone.
