NBP transfer to Ecija hits a snag

LAUR, Nueva Ecija -- The transfer of inmates of the overcrowded New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to a new facility in this town  may take longer than expected.
                Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said project encountered some hurdles.

“May problema kami doon kasi yung 500 hectares na donated from the military reserve (We have a problem with the 500 hectares donated from the military reserve), 400 of them are being claimed by private persons,” Aguirre said.

Apart from this, Aguirre said that there are calls to have the bidding which is scheduled on the last week of August to be reset on a later date.

“There are the bidders that qualified have requested to defer the bidding to some later date so they could still study the documents and requirements,” he said. -- Jeffrey Damicog
