Twister wrecks 3 houses in Batac

BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte — At least three houses were destroyed after a tornado swept through Barangays Colo and Tabug, here, at noon last July 31.

The whirlwind, which also struck the library building and nearby establishments of the state-owned Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), happened about two hours before severe tropical storm “Carina” made landfall in Cagayan province.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Arvin Francis Lumang said the destruction of two houses in Barangay Colo displaced 11 people, while a family of seven had to be evacuated from their wrecked home in Barangay Tabug.

Lumang said the displaced persons were given relief assistance by the city government and are now temporarily staying at houses of their relatives.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the twister, he said.
