2 PNP officers promoted; 5 deserving cops awarded
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Two police officers were promoted here Monday while five others were awarded.
Promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent were Supt. Dominador M. Halog Jr , chief, RPCRD and Supt. Elmer E Ragay, chief, RID.
Police regional director Chief Supt. Elmo Francis O. Sarona led oath-taking ceremony and the donning of ranks of newly promoted officers.
Another highlight of the program was awarding of medals to five deserving PNP personnel. Awardees were
PO3 Selvi Codangos, PO3 Dominic Lukingan, PO3 Cerel Gaspili, PO3 Jesson Bomon-as and PO2 Peter B Tillay.
Their dedication, commitment, outstanding and devotion to duty in fighting Illegal drugs brought honor and prestige not only for themselves but for the PNP Cordillera as well, Sarona said.

Top Cordi top PNP execs hold traditional New Year call
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- As part of tradition of Philippine National Police, key officers of Police Regional Office Cordillera held its New Year courtesy call to regional police director Chief Supt. Elmo Francis O. Sarona. 
Tjhey included Command Group headed by senior Supt. Gregorio N. Lim, deputy regional director for administration, directorial staff, personnnel/special staff, provincial directors, city director, battalion commander of RPSB, chiefs of national support units, deputies of directorial staff, and officers of division/units/offices of regional headquarters.
Sarona cited efforts of all his officers. “It has been my pleasure and distinct privilege serving cordillera region with all of you in the last six months. All of these initiatives and accomplishments would not have been possible without your support and cooperation. Let’s look forward to 2017 with enthusiasm and optimism in the services we will render side by side with each other to continuously uplift the quality of life of the people of Cordillera,” he said.

3 Save More guards, merchandisers held for ‘theft’ of Johnny Walker   
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The management of SaveMore here along km 4 here filed a complaint before police against its three mechandisers and three security guards for cojnspiring and carting away a cartoon of Johnny walker whisky worth  P9,600 on Monday.
Suspects were named as security guards Nino Romero Cielo, 22; Arnel Navarrete Nones, 39 and Valentine Sevilla Castillo, 38. Merchandisers were Ruben Manlincon Maramba, 24; Crisanto Reyes Punay, 25 and Ceferino Pulido Payaoal.
Investigation disclosed the alleged theft transpired around Monday inside SaveMore.
Alexander Delos Santos Martinez, 34, sales assistant of Savemore who filed com,plaint said they conducted inventory of their products  Monday and discovered one box of Johny Walker containing six bottles was missing. They viewed the CCTV footage and discovered how the suspects carted the cartoon where the bottles were in.

Man nabbed in Ifugao for rape
ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – Police arrested here Wednesday at Sibalon, Sta. Maria John Paul Abaco Valdez, 21, driver at his residence for rape. This, after  Judge Cresencio I. Maliwat, RTC Branch 21, Santiago City, Isabela issued warrant for his arrest. Valdez was  brought to Rural Health Unit before being locked u in jail.

Man wanted in Luna for estafa nabbed in Cagayan 
LUNA. Apayao – A man wanted here for estafa was arrested Wednesday in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan by Luna cops. Reynaldo Gonzales Sacramed was nabbed at residence at Barangay Callungan after Judge Quirino M. Andaya, RTC, Branch 26, 2nd Judicial Region, Luna issued warrant against him  recommending P60,000 bail for his temporary liberty. Judge Jose R. Feril of 4th MCTC Luna, also set P20,000 bail for him in another bouncing check case.

Student arrested for rape in Lamut
LAMUT, Ifugao – Cops arrested a student named as Brian Austin Aliguyon Manaol, 17, here Wednesday for rape. Judge Romeo U. Habbiling, RTC Branch 14 of Lagawe issued his arrest warrant with no bail recommended.
Habbiling issued order that Aliguyon be committed to custody of Bahay Pagasa of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office at Poblacion West, Lamut, Ifugao which shall be responsible for the appearance of the accused in court.

Farmer nabbed for rape 
LAMUT, Ifugao – A farmer was arrested Wednesday at Sitio Dioryong, Barangay Disimurong, Nagtipunan Quirino, by police for rape. Arrested was Jay Jay Jos Alvarez Dugyon, 35, of Bannit, Payawan, Lamut. Judge Romeo U Habbiling, RTC branch 14 issued his arrest warrant with no bail recommended.

19-year-old nabbed for rape in Kiangan 
KIANGAN, Ifugao – One Boyet Kindipan Allutang, 19, here of Lammago, Baguinge was nabbed at his residence after Judge Romeo U. Habbiling, RTC Branch 14 of Lagawe issued warrant against him for rape. No bail was set by the judge for the suspect.

Murder lands Sadanga man in jail
SADANGA, Mountain Province – Police arrested here around 5 a.m. Thursday a certain Antonio Charya-As Cassiw Jr., 43 for murder. He is now in jail. This, after Judge Sergio T Angnganay Jr., RTC, Branch 36 of Bontoc issued arrest warrant against him.

Sagada farmer’s house burned in Irisan, Baguio
BAGUIO CITY – A house owned by a farmer from Sagada, Mountain Province was burned here Thursday around 12:30 a.m. at UP Village, Cypress Point, Irisan. The house reportedly owned by Man-a Malicdan Gosadan, 42.was burned after he, together with his laborers had a bonfire at the third floor and due to strong wind, fire ignited by saw dust caused wood and galvanized iron to be burned. Estimated cost of damages was P25,000.
Personnel of Police Station 9 and firemen led by SFO4 Biato Poschor responded and declared fire out at about 1 a.m.

Man urinates, finds body in Badiwan ,Tuba
TUBA, Benguet – The body of a man was found here Wednesday around 3 p.m. beside the Badiwan Rockshield here at Poblacion. The cadaver, already in state of decomposition was about 5’7” in height, fair complexion with both hands tied at his back. He was found wearing a jacket with hood, Levi’s jeans, black shoes, and garrison belt.
Investigation disclosed a certain Greg Waguis Wasan, 47,  miner resident of Camp 6, Camp 4 went on the roof of the rock shield to urinate when he saw the cadaver below prompting them to report the incident to police. The cadaver was examined by Supt. Rodrigo Leal,a doctor who revealed the body was repeatedly shot as evidenced by his wounds. The cadaver was brought to Damayan Funeral homes along  Marcos Highway, Baguio City. Police urged those with missing relatives to see if the body was related to them.

Unemployed man nabbed for abusing wife, daughter
HINGYON, Ifugao – Police arrested an unemployed man here for manhandling his wife and threatening to kill her Monday.
Police said the incident happened around 8 p.m.  here at Napitang, O-ong on complaint of the 41-year-old wife, businesswoman who was not named. Accused was  her husband Roel Cabbigat “Lindawan” Umangeng, of Lida, O-ong, Hingyon.
Investigation disclosed that the suspect while under the influence of liquor went to the victim’s store and threatened his wife that he would to kill her. One of their daughters pacified her father and later accompanied him to their makeshift house at O-ong. Upon reaching the house, the suspect vented his anger on his daughter that prompted the latter to escape and went back to her mother at Napitang. The suspect followed his daughter but his wife and children were already secure inside the house.
Police said on Jan. 6, the suspect, without apparent reason slapped the forehead of the victim and pushed her inside the store and choked her. The victim who was gasping for breath struggled and freed herself with the help of her daughter.


Five Paracelis civilians surrender guns to Army
ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao -- A group of civilians from Bantay, Paracelis, Mountain Province voluntary surrendered their unlicensed guns to government forces headed by 1st Lt. Junrey O. De Ocampo, commanding officer of Alfa Company, 77th Infantry Battalion.
The handover of five Cal. 30 Garand rifles all with defaced serial numbers but in good condition was conducted here at Pinto Patrol Base Tuesday. 
The civilians told De Ocampo the guns were given to them by their forefathers but they decided to turn these over to government authorities after successful negotiation.
The turnover by civilians here was not the first. last year, De Ocampo facilitated same activity thrice that yielded rifles: two Cal. 7.62 M14,  Four Cal. 30 Garand and Carbine including 9mm pistol, all in good condition.
Ltc. Nicolas J. Quemado Jr, commanding officer of 54 Infantry Battalion commended De Ocampo and his men for the surrender of the guns saying it will lessen peace and order problems.

Man shot dead after drinking spree
TINEG, Abra – A man was shot dead here Jan. 7 at Barangay Agsimao. Sangguniang Bayan secretary Melita Tingday told police the victim was Edgardo Betguen Sagudang, 33, farmer, tanod of Barangay Cogon who was shot by still unidentified suspects.
Investigation disclosed the victim went to Agsimao to visit his father and other relatives and had a drinking spree with Jomancis B. Gavino, Marcial P. Buyao and John Lester D. Cangyao. The victim left the group and a few seconds later, five consecutive gunshots were heard.
The group of barangay captain Reynante Calubing proceeded to the place where they heard the gunshots and found the lifeless body of the victim who was shot three times.
Calubing turned over to police four fired cartridge cases of Cal. 5.56mm previously given to him by kagawad Orlino Palangdao Ramirez. Cops found one fired bullet of Cal. 5.56mm at crime site.

 Manhunt on for laborer in sexual harassment
LUNA, Apayao – Police are now looking for a laborer who sexually harassed a 28-year-old female housekeeper here Tuesday around 5 p.m.
Here at Purok Namnama, San Francisco.
The victim was identified as Leyvie Failano Pugal, 28, single, while the suspect was Manny Salvador Umbrero, 24.
Investigation disclosed while the victim was inside her room fixing  clothes and watching television, Umbrero suddenly covered her eyes and mouth using his palm. The suspect allegedly forcibly lifted her shirt, kissed her tummy and touched her private part. The victim resisted and pushed Umbrero’s head on the wall prompting the suspect to run outside the house.  

Man nabbed for rape in Itogon 
ITOGON, Benguet – Police arrested here Tuesday a man wanted for rape in Antamoc Tram, Ucab. Nabbed was Rafael Kawayan Arnold, 61, single, local resident after Marietta S. Brawner-Cualing, presiding judge of RTC Branch 9, La Trinidad, Benguet issued arrest warrant. The judge set bail at P200,000 for temporary liberty of the accused.

Young man nabbed in Mankayan for robbery
MANKAYAN, Benguet – A certain Alexon Bugtong Fagwan, 19, here of Patpat, Tabio was arrested by police Tuesday for robbery with violence and intimidation.
Sergio T. Angnganay Jr., acting presiding judge of RTC Branch 64, Abatan, Buguias, Benguet earlier issued warrant for his arrest and set bail of P100,000 for his temporary liberty.

Man lands in Hingyon jail for frustrated homicide 
HINGYON, Ifugao – A man identified as Roel Nange-eh Dumangeng, 43, of Sitio Napitang, O-ong, accused of frustrated homicide, was nabbed here Tuesday. This, after judge Anastacio Anghad of RTC Branch 14, Lagawe, Ifugao issued warrant for his arrest and set bail of P10,000 for his temporary liberty.

Man dies while drinking gin in Paracelis, Mt. Prov. 
PARACELIS, Mountain Province – A man died while drinking gin
inside a videoke store here at Dagawe, Poblacion. Police identified the victim as Ariel Lang-ayan Amiling, 29, tricycle driver here of Banilag, Poblacion who was brought to Paracelis District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician.
Interview with Mary Tamang Wacnang, store owner disclosed around 6:30 p.m. that day, while she was at their kitchen, she was informed that one of her customers was unconscious inside her store so she requested for assistance from her customers to bring him to the hospital.
Police talked with King Edward Dalaquit Suminar and  Zeus Bulatao Malunda, companions of the victim who revealed around 6 p.m. that evening, the trio ordered a bottle of Ginebra San Miguel and when they almost consumed its content, Suminar noticed Amiling feeling dizzy and rested his head on his shoulder until he and Malunda helped each other and laid Amiling  on the floor who had whitish bubbles coming from his mouth prompting them to bring him to the hospital.

2 men land in jail for stealing cellphone from drunk worker
BAGUIO CITY – Two men were arrested here for stealing the cellphone of a drunk man at Igorot Park here Monday around 11:45 p.m. along Chanum St. Arrested was Dexter Dagsa Roses, 36, of Namitpitan, Buguias, and Alfredo Dominos Lamenta Jr., of Bulalacao, Mankayan, both in Benguet. A police report said they stole the Samsung cellphone worth P3,000 of Julio Tungcol Mendoza Jr., 32,maintenance personnel of Insular Life.
Investigation disclosed that the victim engaged in a drinking session with his nephew along Kayang St and later parted ways at Igorot Park where the victim fell asleep on a bench.  Patrolling personnel spotted the suspects frisking pockets of victim who was sleeping and recovered from Lamenta the cellphone recognized by victim as his own.
 Case was referred to inquest prosecutor Ruth P. Bernabe who ordered the arresting officers to have the suspects incarcerated at the city jail. 

Stabbed woman dead in front of Bangued clinic
BANGUED, Abra – The lifeless body of a woman was found here Tuesday around 7 a.m. in front of Bobila Clinic by a certain Anita Perez Gonzales 48, who happened to pass by at said place and reported what she saw to police.
Investigation disclosed that the body was stabbed on her right chest and right arm. The female cadaver was reportedly the same person who was roaming around town and believed to have mental disorder. She was  about 30 to 40 years old and  around five feet in height.
The cadaver was brought to St. Catherine Funeral Homes in this capital town.

Drunk man drowns while fishing on creek  
LUNA, Apayao – A man who reportedly went fishing at a creek here while under the influence of liquor was found dead drowned in the area Tuesday.
Police said victim Arsenio Uddipa Ruega, 37, married, farmer was drowned between 7 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday along creek at Barangay Lappa.
Investigation disclosed around 7 p.m. Monday, the victim left their house to catch fish at the creek near boxed culvert at Lappa. Around 6 a.m. the next day, Lanie Dulnuan Ruega, wife of the victim became bothered because her husband did not return home from fishing. The wife of the victim immediately proceeded to the creek to look for her husband and discovered the body of her husband floating inside the culvert. No injury was seen on the body of the victim. The body of the victim was brought to municipal health office for post mortem examination. 

Retired Beneco employee driving Fortuner hits scrapper
BAGUIO CITY – A retired employee of the Benguet Electric Coop. here driving a Toyota Fortuner hit a scrapper while driving along corner of Phil-Am Road and Ben Palispis Highway here Monday around 12:30 p.m.
Police named the victim as Samuel Douglas Dela Peña, 35, of Balacbac, Santo Tomas Proper, whose foot was run over by the vehicle with license plate ALA 5511 driven by Orlando Repotula Albiento, 57. Albiento brought Dela Pena to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

Motorcycle driver, passenger
hurt in Sabalan road mishap
SABLAN, Benguet – A motorcycle driver and his passenger were seriously hurt in a road accident here Monday around 3:45 p.m. along Quirino Highway (Naguillan Road) here at Monglo, Bayabas.
A police report said the motorcycle Rusi without plate number, owned and driven by Mark Dumsang Laoyan, 22,  farmer and of Kamog Sablan, collided with Toyota Hi Ace Van, owned and driven by Sherwin Medrano Rosal, 37, barangay kagawad of Veronica, Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
Investigation disclosed said motorcycle was traversing towards La Union when the driver encroached opposite lane and collided with the van ascending towards Baguio City. As a result, Laoyan was injured on different parts of his body while his back rider identified as Patricia Pasculado Soniega, 19, waitress of Pacdal, Baguio City was also hurt.  Laoyan was rushed to Baguio General Hospital and Medcial Center by firemen while Soniega refused to go to the hospital for treatment.

Charges set against student in Bangued road accident 
BANGUED, Abra – Charges are being prepared against a student who hit a young man on a roadside with motorcycle he was driving Monday around 10 p.m. along McKinley Street Zone 2.
The victim, identified as Eduardo Rosaruso, 28, and his uncle were fixing connection of a water hose along the road when the speeding motorcycle driven by Rodel Cabannag Linggayo, 21, of Taripan, Malibcong, suddenly hit the victim which caused the driver to lose control of his motorcycle.
Rosaruso was hit on his head and rushed by his uncle to Abra Provincial Hospital where he is now confined thereat. Lingggayo had  multiple abrasions on his body and laceration on his face. He was also rushed to APH by the responding police for treatment.

Baguio giant Christmas tree burned in Burnham
BAGUIO CITY – A giant Christmas tree was burned here Monday around 8:55 p.m. at Rose Garden, Burnham Park. Four security guards from Interlink Security Agency who were on duty at the area immediately switched off the main source of lights and reported the incident police who responded and firemen. The fire was declared out around an hour later by SF04 Jason Camero. Cause of fire is still unknown while the cost of damage has yet to be determined by the Bureau of fire Protection.

Motorcycle stolen in Diffun, Quirino found in Bauko
BAUKO, Mountain Province – A motorcycle left unattended along the Abatan-Mabaay provincial road at Abatan, Bauko by still unidentified men was taken by police for safekeeping.
Police said the black and white XRM motorcycle with no plate number, with Chassis Number KPY0012536 and without battery was abandoned. The motorcycle was reportedly stolen Dec. 6, 2016 in Diffun, Quirino.
The motorcycle was reportedly intercepted at Caluttit, Bontoc as evidenced by temporary operators permit issued by Land Transportation Office-Bontoc recovered inside the compartment of the motorcycle. The permit was issued to one Jeramy Dela Cruz Gadao with written address at Paracelis, Mt. Province for violation of driving motorcycle without helmet.

Taxi bumps 2-year-old boy
BAGUIO CITY – A 2-year-old boy was rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center after he was hit by a taxi here Monday around 1:15 p.m. along Zamora Street.
Police identified the victim as Romi Dean Caluyong Abucay, who was running and hit on the front fender of a Toyota Revo Wagon Taxi with license plate AYS 599 driven by Pedrito Pagal Corpuz, 49, of 116 Kennon Road, Lions Head, Camp 7.The victim was hit on his knees and foot and brought by Corpuz to BGHMC for treatment. Responding traffic investigators took the driver’s license and OR/CR.


Besao house burned; housewife dead  
BESAO, Mountain Province – A housewife died when their house was burned here Monday around 12 midnight at Barangay Soquib.  Police named the victim as Jane Mey-ang, 41, farmer.
Jane was sleeping with her husband Noble Ayson in their 2-storey house when they were awakened by thick smoke that engulfed their abode. Noble crawled and jumped out of the window from the second floor while his wife was left behind. As a result he sustained head and back injuries when he landed on a paved pathway and incurred first degree burn. He was admitted at Besao District Hospital.
The dead body of his wife was retrieved after the fire out was declared out around 2 a.m. by firemen.  
Damage on the house made of light materials was pegged at P200, 000.The cause of fire has yet to be determined.

Drunk man lands in Bontoc pit; injured
BONTOC, Mountain Province – A man walking a pathway fell down a deep pit here Jan. 8 around 10:45 p.m. along a pathway at Chackong, Bontoc Ili. Police named the victim as Pedro Limog Fao-ilan, 62, of Fatayan, Bontoc Ili. Investigation disclosed the victim was under the influence of liquor when  the accident happened. Fao-ilan who suffered multiple injuries on his head and body was brought to Bontoc General Hospital where he was confined.

4 nabbed in La Trinidad, Baguio buy-bust operations
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Four alleged drug pushers were arrested in buy-bust operations in this capital town and nearby Baguio City Jan. 6 and 7.
Cristobal Sumcad Dao-ayen, 51, here of Bayabas, Pico was arrested Jan. 6 at his residence. Shabu in two plastic scahes and P1, 000 buy bust money was confiscated from him.
The next day police  arrested Clifford Cornel, 22, of Trancoville, Baguio City; Remegio Goyodan Pidaoc, 45, of Purok 5, Pinsao Pilot, Baguio City; and Richard Galboy Timidan, 44, of Cruz, La Trinidad.
The three were nabbed at Tricom Village, Pinsao Pilot, Baguio. Confiscated from theme were shabu worth P28,000,  several drug paraphernalia and buy bust money.
Charges for illegal drugs were filed against them in court.

Two Koreans mauled in bar
BAGUIO CITY – Police are trying to identify a group of men who mauled two Korean students here around 11 top 11:30 p.m. inside One Piece Bar, Upper General Luna Road.
Police named the victims as Korean students Jeon Hui Seop, 28, student and Sung Myeon Jyu, 26.
 Investigation disclosed that the victims went to the place to unwind but had  heated argument with men seated beside their table which resulted to a brawl. Victims were inured while suspects fled after the incident.
Police are checking CCTV footage at the place.

3-year-old hurt in motorcycle mishap
LAGAYAN, Abra -- Avehicular traffic accident transpired here along Lagayan-La Paz Provincial Road Jan. 8 around 11 a,m, at Sitio Manaois, Poblacion wherein a motorcycle driven by Jarel Balucas Gandeza, 16, with rider Mark Anthony Balucas Bosque, 15, both Grade 9 students of Pulot National High School accidentally bumped Dashile Ace  Labaro Bañaga, 3 of Sitio Manaois.
The victim was about to cross the road when accidentally bumped by the motorcycle. The victim had multiple abrasions on his face and different parts of his body and was rushed to Abra Provincial Hospital, Bangued, Abra. The driver and his back rider were unhurt and were brought to Lagayan police station.

64-year-old woman hurt in Kennon collision
BAGUIO CITY – A 64-year-old woman was injured when the passenger jeep she was riding in collided with a Mitsubisho L-300 FB here Jan. 8 around 6:45 p.m. along Wabac, Camp 7 Kennon Road.
The FB was driven by Dennis Rivera Gaulet, 40, of Mapagbigay Street Piñahan, Quezon City while the jeep was driven by  Fernando Agloro Aquino, 43, hre of Crystal Cave/.  
Investigation disclosed the vehicle driven by Gaulet was descending towards the lowlands and while traversing a curve,overtook another vehicle then collided head on with the vehicle driven by  Aquino who was while ascending towards city proper and was at opposite lane.
North vehicles incurred damages while passenger Letecia Agloro Aquino, resident of Km 3 Asin Road, Baguio City was injured.
She was rushed to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center by rescuers. 
Driver’s licenses of both drivers were confiscated by police.

Mother files complaint against troublemaker son
LAMUT, Ifugao – Police received a cellphone call here around11 p.m. of Jan. 7, from Beverly Balajo Guinid, 30 of local Bureau of Jail Management and Penology saying his brother Albert Balajo Guinid, 28, unemployed was under the influence of liquor and creating trouble by destroying their television including the door of the house of her sister Rona Christine Narvarte located beside their family house.
Cops brought the suspect to police station.
However, in the morning of Jan. 8, prior to his release after becoming sober, the mother and sister of the suspect appeared and decided to execute a complaint because every time he gets drunk, he becomes unruly and creates trouble within their compound.

Mason nabbed for threatening to throw kid down mountain  
BAGUIO CITY – A mason was arrested for taking a female kid, whipping and pinching her and threatening to throw her down a mountain Jan. 8. Police investigation revealed the victim’s neighbor Rey Jacer Abella, 27, of Tapao West Quirino Hill, B.C. saw the victim together with her playmates at the view deck and told her they will look for the suspect’s cousins. The victim obliged and went along with him to different places.
After several hours, the victim wanted to go home but Abella told her they still have to go somewhere. When she cried he whipped her arm, pinched her and  threatened to toss her down the mountain.
Police and victim’s family who were looking for them chanced upon the suspect who was carrying the victim on his shoulder along Lower Magsaysay and arrested him.
