 Judge Rasing awards 10 cops for dedication, shootfest
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Ten deserving cops and  winners of a shootfest were awarded here Monday with guest of honor and speaker executive judge Emmanuel C. Rasing of  Regional Trial Court, Baguio City.
Medalya ng Paglilingkod were awarded to five police personnel for rendering 20 years of honorable service to the Philippine National Police. Five personnel were also awarded Medalya ng Mabuting asal for their dedication to duty for five continuous years without any record of violation of rules.
Civilian winners of the 2nd Chief Supt. Elmo Francis O. Sarona shootfest were also awarded: Charlz Leano for Unlimited Division and Que Law-ang for Limited 10. This, while SPO4 Taggart Bagsiyao of Benguet provincial police office was titleholder for Double Action/Striker Fired  Division, Law Enforcement Agency and Individual Category. Also, Ifugao PPO bagged the championship for Team Challenge.

Taxi driver shot in Slaughter Compound
BAGUIO CITY – A taxi driver was shot here around 12:15 a.m. Thursday by an unidentified man.
                 Police said Rene Fermin Sab-it, 39, of Samoyao, Itogon, Benguet was shot by male suspect on board a white/black sedan bearing plate number CSB 258 at Slaughter Compound, Barangay Sto. Nino in front of Banania Store 
Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, the suspect allegedly bumped an Innova taxi with trade name “Mamasita” parked on the side of the road that resulted in an altercation with the driver.
After which, the suspect went inside his car then suddenly drew gun then fired towards the concrete pavement. The victim who was seated on a monoblock chair was hit on his right leg while the suspect hurriedly drove his car and fled towards Lower Magsaysay. The victim was ferried by his fellow taxi drivers to Baguio General Hospital for medical treatment. Police found a spent bullet of Cal. 9 mm handgun in the area.

302 trees found cut in Bakun
BAKUN, Benguet – Authorities found Wednesday around 392 Pine trees were cut here and are now looking for the suspects who are at large. 
Police, environment and kagawad Orlando Tokias of Barangay Gambang found the felled trees at  Sitio Enga-an, Gambang. 
Residents said the trees were cut in October 2016 and that persons responsible in cutting these for unknown purposes were their relatives identified as Max Cambulo and Freddie Tapia, both residents of said place.
Community environment officials and police said they will conduct further investigation and file appropriate cases in court. 

Beautician nabbed for estafa in Mankayan
MANKAYAN, Benguet – Police arrested Wednesday at Poblacion a certain Sandy Ramos Pangilinan  , 29, male beautician, of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija now residing here along at Aurora Street. 
This, after Jonathan Chavez Segundo, presiding judge of MTC Mankayan, Benguet issued warrant for his arrest for estafa. Segundo set bail of P2,000 for the suspect’s temporary liberty.

Man lands in jail for large-scale recruitment
ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – A certain Eduardo Manuel Pabiling, Jr., 34, farmer of Purok 7 Annex, Planas, Ramon, Isabela surrendered to police here Wednesday after being charged for large scale recruitment.
The suspect has standing warrant of arrest at the National Capital Region. Judge Edwin B. Ramizo of RTC, NCR Judicial Region, Branch 114, Pasay City issued his arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 8042 (illegal recruitment) as amended by R.A. 10022 known as  ‘Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 with no bail recommended.
Pabiling is now incarcerated at municipal jail here.

Man arrested for arson
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police arrested a certain Jerson Soti Bayas, 38, at Barangay Betag here Tuesday for arson. This, after Judge Emmanuel Cacho-Rasing of RTC , La Trinidad issued warrant for his arrest.

Out-of-school youth arrested for  rape 
BAGUIO CITY – An out of school youth is now in jail after cops nabbed him here Tuesday at   No. 85 East Bayan Park for acts of lasciviousness and rape. The suspect was identified as Ian Zedrick Perez Atienza, 17, out of school youth ,  resident here of Upper Pinget.
Judge Ivan Kim Morales, RTC Branch 59, here issued his arrest warrant and recommended P12,000 bail for the first office and no bail for rape.
     
Rape lands man in Apayao jail
FLORA, Apayao – Police arrested here Tuesday at Barangay Malubibit Norte a certain Roger Bilag Bayuca, 40 for rape and attempted rape.  Judge Francisco Donato of RTC set no bail. Police jailed the suspect.

Kid drowns, brother missing in Lamut river boat mishap
LAMUT, Ifugao – A kid was drowned, while her brother is still missing when the boat they were riding on was filled with water causing it to tilt until it sank here Tuesday.
A police report said around 5 p.m. that day, cops received a telephone call from barangay captain Manuel Kalahi Jr. of Pugol informing them of the incident at a river in Sitio Compra, Pugol.
Drowned was Micha Marzan Bermudez, 2 while here brother John Mark, 5, is still missing. Both were residents of Pina, Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya.
Investigation disclosed the victims with their mother Jennelyn Marzan, 25 and  sister in-law Vinnelyn Bermudez Dawing, 34 were on their way home aboard the  small boat when it sank.
Dawing and Marzan managed to drag Micha to the river bank while John Mark was left. The mother conducted first aid on Micha but the victim was not responsive prompting her to call for help.
                Responding personnel of police, disaster, barangay officials and residents brought Micha to municipal health office but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Rhodora Mentesa, municipal health officer.
Search and rescue operation were still being conducted for John Mark at press time.

One stabbed dead, another  hurt in Trinidad bar front   
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A young man was stabbed dead while another severely hurt when they were attacked by still unidentified man here midnight Monday outside Kibungan Bar km  5, Pico. Dead on arrival at Benguet General Hospital was a certain Mauro while seriously injured was Wilfred Dayoday Deguit, 17, farmer, of Dumaguete City and resident here of Central Bahong.
According to the companion of the victims, Edmer Dicon Calimbo, 21, famer and resident also of Central Bahing, they just came out from the bar when unidentified suspect followed them and stabbed the victims. The suspect then fled towards unknown direction while the victims were rushed to the hospital.
Attending physician, Dr. Ceasar Peckley declared Mauro dead on arrival while Deguit who had lone stab wound on his back was operated on.

Man mauls vendor, takes her P5,000 cash
ITOGON, Benguet – A 52-year-old married vendor was mauled by a still unidentified man who grabbed her shoulder bag and fled with P5,000 cash in it here Jan. 15 around 11:30 pm.  
A police report said the incident happened at Balatoc, Virac, near  Benguet Corp mill plant. The victim was named as Soraya Cagudcod Watti, 52, of Mankayan town,  resident here of Villaluna, Balatoc, Virac. The incident was reported to Virac police by the victim accompanied by Ataydi Bali-ao, BC security guard.
Investigation disclosed Watti was on her way home when she met the suspect who tried to grab her umbrella but was pacified by Bali-ao. Minutes after, the victim continued to walk but the suspect followed her asking forgiveness.                     Suddenly, the suspect choked her prompting her to react but the suspect held her neck firmly with both his arms. The victim tried to free herself until they stumbled on the ground. The suspect punched her face successively and tried to grab her cellphone and shoulder bag containing the P5, 000. The suspect was able to get her shoulder bag except the cellphone and left the victim screaming. Bali-ao heard the shout of victim and responded with his companion and saw the suspect running up the stairs going towards Keymens Hill, Virac. They searched the area and recovered the shoulder bag of the victim and discovered her cash already gone.

Man stabbed by 17-year-old kid
AGUINALDO, Ifugao – A certain Ericson Bewangna, of Barangay Galonogon here is now in critical condition after he was stabbed Jan. 15 by a 17-year-old boy.
Bawangnan was rushed to Aguinaldo Peoples Hospital after which he was referred by the attending physician to Emergency Hospital in Santiago City for further treatment. The suspect Ronaldo Chum-in Oman, elementary graduate and also a resident of Galonogon, was apprehended and brought to Aguinaldo Peoples Hospital for medical examination and later taken to police station.

Female body found along Abra River
LA PAZ, Abra – The body of a woman, shot in the head, was found here Jan. 15 midnight.  Raymundo Baltar Biscarra, 45, of Barangay Mudeng told police the cadaver was found along riverside of Barangay San Antonio. Police found recovered two fired bullets of Cal. 45 in the area.
Investigation disclosed the unidentified victim, wearing blue pants and gray jacket printed with “Lee”, about 25 to 30 years old and 5 feet in height, was shot in the head. The body was brought to Pineda Funeral Homes.

Cadaver found in Baguio bakeshop
BAGUIO CITY – A woman was found dead inside a bakeshop here Jan. 15 around 6 a.m. Dionisio Tubera Naniong, 47, businessman, of Brookspoint, Aurora Hill here told police his live-in- partner, Jackielyn Yap, 43, was found dead inside Dionisio’s Bakeshop and Lutong Ulam at No. 1 Ledesma St., East Modernsite, Aurora Hill around 5:30 a.m.
Police brought the cadaver to Baguio Memorial Chapel for autopsy.  Naniong said the victim had lingering heart ailment.

Drivers, passengers hurt in Ifugao road mishap 
LAMUT, Ifugao – Several persons were injured when a motorcycle bumped another here Jan. 14 around 7 p.m. along Hapid Road, Poblacion East.
A police report said motorcycle registered under Mary Ivan Kristian B. Calimlim, and driven by Warren Floyd Binwag Calimlim, 36, bumped the other tricycle owned by Kim Butala and driven by Reymundo Calip Padin, 46, butcher.
Investigation disclosed both motorcycles were heading towards Poblacion wherein Padin was ahead. Padin slowed down to give way to a pedestrian but Calimlim’s vehicle bumped the rear of the former pushing it to the other lane.
An incoming tricycle from opposite lane driven by Larry Ollier Derije, 45, tried to evade the accident and veered his tricycle on the shoulder lane of the road that caused injury to his passenger identified as Marilyn Beligen Codamon 60.
Padin was injured on his right ankle and right shoulder while his passenger Voss Castillo Calimlim was injured on the mouth. Calimlim and his passenger were brought to clinic of couple and doctors Thomas and Maria Dela Cruz while the drivers of other vehicles including their passengers were brought to Panopdopan District Hospital for treatment. Both motorcycles were damaged and brought to police station.

16-year-old student pinned between jeep, boulder; dies
AGUINALDO, Ifugao – A 16-year-old male was killed here in a vehicular accident Jan. 15 around 4:45 p.m. A police report said
            William Chipalang Polig, 33, driver of the vehicle went to seek assistance from cops at a checkpoint saying the public utility jeep he was driving met an accident at Barangay Chalalo.
             Investigation disclosed while they were ascending a steep part of the road towards Barangay Ubao, the engine of the jeep suddenly stopped making the vehicle slide downwards hitting sand boulders and stopped there.
              When the driver alighted, he saw that his passenger Ariel Liingnap Angowan, grade 8 student of Ubao National High School, who was standing up holding on a carrier at the rear edge of the vehicle, was pinned down by the left rear of the jitney on sand boulders. Polig immediately put the victim on the side of the road. Cops  brought the body to Carbonel funeral homes at Alfonso Lista town but was later brought to Barangay Butac for vigil. Two other passengers were injured: Mayrish Bakichan Nawalig, 18, 3rd year college student at Ifugao State University and Janice Guinomon, 25, of Butac.
