65 nabbed in Ilocos Region for violating poll gun ban

DAGUPAN CITY — At least
78 assorted firearms have been recovered and 65 persons were arrested in Ilocos
since the implementation of the gun ban in connection with the elections in
May.
At least 48
persons were arrested and 44 guns were confiscated by the Pangasinan police,
eight guns and six persons in La Union, 19 guns and seven persons in Ilocos Sur
and four guns and two persons in Ilocos Norte.
The Regional Criminal
Investigation and Detection Unit also arrested two persons and seized two guns.
Chief Superintendent
Romulo Sapitula, Ilocos police director, said 17 other guns were surrendered
and 126 turned over for safekeeping by 35 politicians, 40 candidates and 53
civilians.
Senior Inspector Ria
Tacderan, Pangasinan police information officer, said 10 gun replicas were also
confiscated.
