CAMP QUIRINO, Ilocos
Sur- Policemen here are now using their own personal money to construct a
decent house for the poor.
This was learned by
newsmen after the 1st Ilocos Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company launched its
“1st Best Practice: Adopt A House” program, a laudable move providing shelter
to poor Ilocanos.
SPO3 Reynald “Bong”
Ramos, said the concept of the project is “to provide decent shelter to the
less fortunate who cannot afford to build their own house.”
Adopt a House project,
is the first ever humanitarian program initiated by the police here under the
leadership of Supt. Haron Rasid Ali, commander of the 1st Ilocos Sur Mobile
Force company that was supported by Senior Supt. Adolfo Rafanan, police
director.
Ramos said the project
is one way of bringing police service closer to the community to show that the
police is not only working for a peaceful community but also rendering
humanitarian services to win their hearts and minds.
The project, Ramos said,
will deny the New People’s Army of community support, “leading toward a
peaceful community resulting to better place to live in , make a peaceful
family and do business.”
The first recipient of
said “Adopt a House” project is Riyel Ramos a resident of Lingsat, Bantay, Ilocos Sur, married,
self-employed.
Lt General Felimon
Santos, commanderof the 7th infantry division, earlier said in an interview
with this writer that the NPA rebels are still operating along the mountainous
areas of Ilocos provinces, and nearby provinces.
