Baguio-based foundation to promote Korean culture language, ties with Phl

BAGUIO CITY –A foundation is set to start a program at an international school in this tourism and summer resort to teach the Korean language and culture for free to Filipinos or anybody who is interested and foster relations between Korea and the Philippines.
The King Sejong Institute Foundation will be based at the campus of the Disciples for Christ Independent School here in Barangay Lucnab near The Mansion, the official residence and office of the President of the Philippines in this northern part of the country.
The teaching program and activities which aim to foster relations between the two countries will start around September.
Local officials, folks including the media lauded the KSIF for bringing another feature to Baguio which had recently been named one of Creative Cities of the World by the UNESCO.
The KSIF is the coordinating headquarters which support overseas Korean language and culture institute – King Sejong Institute.
It is an institution which gives general support to spread the Korean language and culture worldwide.
The Foundation was established in October 2012 and operated with its designation as public institution in January 2013 in Korea.
The facility will be the third in the Philippines, next to Manila and Cebu with the same program.
Once it is set up other similar facilities will be instituted in other parts of the country.
The KSIF is a public organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the Republic of Korea which oversees programs that promote the Korean language and culture in other countries.
There are now 172 KSIS in 56 countries worldwide.
The KSIF has numerous projects which include strengthening capabilities and professionalism of teachers, establishing networks for cooperation, support for online education and promoting diversity through Korean culture.
Other objectives of the KSIF include fostering closer relationships through diverse media channels and building a world where dreams are fulfilled through Korean language and culture.
