Spilling the beans

BAGUIO CITY -- We need some simple mathematics to know that the 2110 election is just around the corner and somehow could be the best issue for the talk of the town. So, who's is afraid come judgment day and who's not would be a guess I myself is not sure who they are.

But surely, aspirants are now starting to plan for their campaign strategies. Some even are now trying to earn their pogi points through “praise” releases and paid ads. Presidential and senatoriables are now starting to invest their political business enterprises while some top government officials are now taking every opportune time to push their pet projects while they could before the
deadline so they can have the kickbacks added to their fat bank accounts. But then, what’s new?

This is but a usual dirty game of politics which an ordinary Juan De La Cruz would just shrug off and say it’s none of his business for the food on the table (for his family) is his priority. Well this could be the reason why this Banana Republic faces economic uncertainties every now and then.

But for every Filipino pushed to the limit, this is dangerous. We have experienced this not only once but twice and I am not saying that judgment day could be coming earlier ahead than expected. Mot at election precincts, or courtrooms but on the streets. People’s Power? No, no, no not anymore please.

The impeachment complaint filed by JDV III against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo died instantly at the Lower House. It is another knockout point for Malacañang and for sure, expect more knockouts to happen till the bout will be finished. Their battery of coaches could now be planning their next move ahead.

These spin masters cum coaches may now banging their heads together to have a perfect blueprint for the “Cha-cha.” Of course, they don’t want this blueprint to be just thrown to the dust bin just like what the nincompoops at Kamara did of the impeachment complaint, but they forget that they are only making moves that would only bring the queen nearer to the dust bin!

Why? Because now that they killed the impeachment complaint, the President has now lost the opportunity to defend herself and explain point by point the allegations thrown at her name before the People of the Philippines. Secondly, the House of the Representative lost the chance to uplift its image as a body of honorable men and women whose principles are not bought. After all, public opinion is the best convincing power to evaluate who you are and what you are. So what's next, wanna bet? “Sayang na pagkakataon!”

I could also say sayang to Manong Joe De Venecia for only spilling the beans when he should have done this when was still the Sspeaker of the House. Now, I doubt if the beans he would spill is as fresh as those vegetables coming from the trading post in Pico, La Trinidad in Benguet, I guess this is the thinking of some kababayans who would want beans spilled out for the truth to come out.

But this is not the issue for former Comelec Benjamin Abalos who said there could have been beans spoiled who is the younger De Venecia spoiled by the older De Venecia. Now look who saying blood is not thicker than water? Only this thick faced man perhaps.

Perhaps, the sacking of the former chief of police in Kapangan, Benguet would serve as a warning to police scalawags who are using their position to circumvent the law rather than to implement it without fear and favor.

The large volume of marijuana bricks found missing earlier confiscated and under their custody was enough ground to indict them. What more to the alleged suspects who were set free by these arresting officers? Now I see there’s really money in exchange for promotion for these policemen who would rather take chances in going after these traffickers than going after those big time jueteng operators!

While I appreciate the good Department of Environment and Natural Rresources secretary Lito Atienza for supporting the strict regulation of small scale mining, particularly in Benguet, I think it is more appropriate for the honorable secretary to include also large mining industries which should also be strictly regulated.

Though small scale or pocket miners bore holes or tunnels to extract mine deposits that could destroy the natural balance of our mountains that may cause landslides, the more we have to guard toxic waste products coming from these big mining firms that could lead to more fatal destruction to humans, plants animals and natural resources. Look, toxic substances could cause poisoning and abnormalities that we may become unwanted mutants or living dead someday, God forbid!

I would like to thank Director Graciano Tobias, Jr. for investigating his employees at the Land Transportation office in San Fernando City, La Union.

I have just been informed by my bubwit there that he is now attending to the earlier exposé from this column regarding the alleged irregularities going on under his turf particularly on the licensing division. Reports have it also that a certain Wilma Baagen whom I earlier named in this column is now under interrogation by the said LTO top honcho.

If this is true then I salute Director Tobias Jr for doing so. This is better than bringing the complaint to National Director Suansing! Kudos sa iyo Apo Graciano Tobias!

This piece is to call the attention of DOTC – LTFRB – CAR regional director Federico “Bong” Mandapat, Jr. to cause inspection of vans for hire at the Dangwa parking area just beside the former Garden Theater.

According to one of my bubwits, some of these are colorums but are able to travel back and forth to Baguio as public conveyance without any permit. Well, one of the operators is accordingly bragging they are “malakas sa itaas” (untouchable), but I am giving the LTFRB – CAR the benefit of the doubt.

“Ano sey mo dito Manong Bong Mandapat? May alam ka ba dito? Kung wala, pakibusisi naman, period!”
