Natonin, Conner folks get 4Ps cash grants

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- Beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), one of the national poverty reduction strategy of the government, received their cash grant recently at the Landbank of the Philippines Tuguegarao and Bontoc Branches.

Coming from the municipalities of Natonin and Conner, a total of P2, 161, 500 worth of cash grants were given to 422 Conner beneficiaries and 473 Natonin beneficiaries through over-the-counter (OTC) payment. The pay-out was facilitated by the 4Ps municipal links and by representatives from the Regional Project Management Office.

The payment was held simultaneously in Bontoc and Tuguegarao.

Meanwhile those who were not able to attend the release of payments may get their cash grants on the next scheduled OTC payment.

The OTC payment was facilitated by members of the 4Ps Regional Project Management Office with Regional Focal Person Maria T. Manigui, Ruby Bobila, Stuart Malecdan, and Wendel Fagyan.

4Ps or the Conditional Cash Transfer Program in the Philippines provides cash grant to its beneficiaries. With conditions on health, nutrition and education, a household can receive 500 pesos a month allowance for health, and 300 pesos per month per child. It aims to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty by investing on health, education, and nutrition.

4Ps is currently being implemented in Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province and Baguio City with 13, 383 beneficiaries. For the year 2010, 4Ps expanded in the provinces of Benguet and Ifugao in response to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s directive to complete the one million target beneficiaries. – Eric Escalante
