KIBUNGAN, Benguet - More than half a
million peso worth of marijuana plants were discovered anew here in a remote
village here in Benguet last week.
Town policemen led by
Senior Insp. Andres Calaowa Jr. went 4 a.m. on Nov. 19 to Barangay Badeo
and raided six marijuana plantation sites totaling 650 square meters in
sitioTaba-ao and Culangi.
Police found no
marijuana cultivators during the raid. The agents were able to uproot 3,250
fully grown marijuana plants valued at 650,000.
Policemen urged
residents in the areas to refrain from engaging in marijuana cultivation,
reminding them of the ill effects of the illegal substance.
Authorities consider
the highland Cordillera region as biggest producer of good quality marijuana in
the country because of its climate coupled with the harsh conditions of terrain
that hampers detection of authorities.
