LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — This
year’s Paradana Dayew (Float Parade) and street dance competition during the
434th Agewna Pangasinan was an eye-opener for Pangasinenses which allowed them
to know more about the history of this capital town and the products of the
different towns.
Being one
of the main attractions of the celebration, the float-design competition
featuring the artistry and craftsmanship of Pangasinenses added color to the
festivities.
The floats
showcased the livelihood, lifestyle, culture and tradition of the town or city
that they represent while the street dancers showcased their town’s festivals,
culture and history.
The parade
started at 4:00 p.m. on April 5, 2014, from Capitol Plaza to Alvear
Street-Artacho Street-Lingayen Plaza-Maramba Boulevard and to the Beachfront.
Mangaldan
town grabbed this year’s grand prize for the float-design with its
carabao design representing its town’s main product which is the famous
“Pindang” (thin slices of dried and cured carabao meat).
Besting
more than 30 floats, Mangaldan, which has long been known for this sweet
tasting carabao meat as the town’s leading product, won a cash of P100, 000
along with the Lingayen street dancers who also went home P100, 000 richer for
being the street dancing champions among 22 groups who competed during the
ParadanaDayew Float Parade and Street Dance Competition last April 5 at the
Capitol Beachfront.
The
Paradana Dayew Grand Cultural Parade proved to be a most sought event during
the Agewna Pangasinan, drawing a huge crowd close to some 20,000 onlookers who
took their vantage points ahead of time along the main roads of Lingayen town
to witness the most participated Float Parade and Street Dance Competition
which is among the main attractions of the province’s commemoration of the
birth of the province last April 5. – Liezle BasaInigo
