SAGANGAN, Mountain Province –
Hedcor Sabangan, Inc., in partnership with the local government unit of
Sabangan, highlighted women’s welfare through a medical mission advocating
health among the ‘Juanas’ of the municipality.
Held at
Barangay Capinitan Multipurpose Hall, women from the 15 barangays here gathered
to avail of free consultation, medical test and medicines in the event
organized for them.
The
mission which coincides with the celebration of International Women’s Month
adapted this year’s theme: “Juana, ang tatag mo ay tatag natin sa paglaban at
pagsulong”.
In the
opening program, Hedcor Sabangan project director Rafael Macabiog turned over
medicines and materials needed by the Sabangan Medical Team.
Macabiog
said the mission is a ‘reminder’ that every woman is special and such activity
are held to honor them.
He also
noted Hedcor conducted the medical mission not only for the ongoing 14MW
hydropower host barangays Namatec and Napua but for the whole municipality of
Sabangan.
Through
the assistance and support of the twenty members of the medical team coming
from the local health center and the Department of Social Welfare Development
(DSWD) the medical mission went smoothly.
Dr.
Jhanice Paredes, an OB-gynecologist graced the occasion discussing the current
health condition of women. According to her, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is
the number one reason why women visit their doctor.
Dr.
Paredes explained that UTI is an infection in any part of the urinary system-
our kidneys, ureters, bladders and urethra. She noted that women are at greater
risk of developing UTI than men.
She also
discussed some tips to prevent occurrence of such illness and emphasized “not
to self-medicate.”
The
medical mission is part of Hedcor’s corporate social responsibility in
promoting health to its host communities.
