 PNP’s ‘Bato’ graces Cordillera PNP Day 
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet– Philippine National Police chief Director General Roland “Bato” Dela Rosa graced here Friday the 115th police anniversary celebration of the Police Regional Office at Camp Bado Dangwa.
Dela Rosa was given traditional arrival honors led by regional police director Chief Supt. Elmo Francis Sarona with an indigenous Cordillera cultural dance performed by cops.
        De La Rosa talked on accomplishment of the PNP and Duterte Administration on all-out war against drugs particularly “Oplan Tokhang.”
The chief PNP  led  awarding of  medals to  outstanding police officers and personnel of  PRO-COR and burning  marijuana leaves and bricks taken from  anti-drug operations of Cordillera police and their partners.
He also led blessing and turnover of vehicles and ground breaking of a new building called ‘Sinagtala,’ class name of Philippine Military Academy Class 1986 wherein Dela Rosa and Sarona belong.
Aside from the command conference with the PRO-COR, the PNP chief also held  forum with Cordillera local chief executives and drug users and pushers, By RedjieMelvicCawis

Man shot dead in Buguias; shooters flee
BUGUIAS, Benguet – A man was shot dead here Monday around 8:30 a.m.  at Proper Loo. The victim was identified as Marlon Kiblasen Benit, 45, driver, resident in the area. Two men got away on board a Toyota Innova with no license plate after shooting him.
          SPO3 Dionisio Abibico immediately responded and cordoned the area while awaiting arrival of responding investigator. Personnel of Buguias MPS conducted checkpoint and hot pursuit operation to search the alleged getaway vehicle of the suspects but this could not be found.
            Initial investigation disclosed that the victim together with his friend Cristobal Loogan had just repaired their vehicle at the place of incident. When they were about to start the Toyota Tamaraw FX owned by the victim, Loogan entered and sat at the driver’s seat while Benit was at the rear pushing the vehicle. At that moment successive gun shots were heard by Loogan and saw the victim through the vehicle’s side mirror falling on the ground. The two men approached the victim and shot him again successively at close range then immediately fled towards unknown direction.
After the incident concerned residents rushed the victim to Lutheran Hospital, in Barangay Abatan where Dr. Meriam Lasegan, declared the victim dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body. Police released results of the investigation to Barangay Chairman Dionisio Badian of Loo, Buguias. Recovered from the crime scene were nine empty shells and one deformed slug of Cal. 45 handgun.

Man dead, 9-year-old kid hurt in shooting 
LUNA, Apayao – A high school graduate was shot dead here Monday around 5:25 p.m. at the Poblacion. The victim was named as Erice “Fering” Repuyo, 46, of Barangay Turod. He was was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen while Dominick GampongPacnis, 9 of Poblacion was hit by stray bullet.
            Investigation disclosed that the victim was on his way going home on board with his motorcycle when two unidentified person onboard with a Honda XRM motorcycle without license plate fired upon the victim several times and escaped towards Barangay San Isidro Sur. Pacnis was hit on his left palm while Repuyo was shot in  different parts of his body.  Both were rushed to Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center at Quirino, Luna, Apayao by responding members of Bureau of Fire Protection Luna but  Repuyo was pronounced dead on arrival.
 Responding personnel of Luna MPS conducted hot pursuit operation but turned negative. The victim, Ceferino Repuyo was recorded drug watch List of Luna MPS. SOCO personnel processed the crime scene and were able to recover one piece fired bullet for cal. 45, six pieces fired cartridge cases for cal. 45. Case is under follow-up investigation.

Woman stabbed on neck by live-in partner
BAGUIO CITY – A woman was stabbed on her neck by her live-in partner here Monday around 9:30 p.m. at Belshang Lodge, km 3 Asin Road wherein the victim was identified as Rina Sorsoja, 20.
       Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, they had a party at their residence. The victim was rushed by a taxi driver to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center where was pronounced stable by the medical staff during inquiry. Police did not name the suspect who is still at large.

Tanudan town treasurer nabbed for firearm, bullets 
TABUK CITY – The municipal treasurer of Tanudan town named as Jose W. Alunday Jr., 40, was arrested here Monday around 9 a.m. at a checkpoint in front of Kalinga Electric Coop.  alongTabuk-Paracelis Road here in Barangay Bulanao.
Cops said Alunday was riding his Honda motorcycle going to Tanudan when flagged down and could not present documents to apprehending officers for the following items: Cal. 45 pistol, bullets and magzzine. The suspect was detained at the Tabuk City Police Station while a case was prepared against him.

Man reports manhandling; laborer nabbed for gun
BANGUED, Abra – A certain Jerry Bautista Molina, 27, laborer was nabbed here Monday around 9 a.m. for illegal possession of firearm and magazine loaded with five bullets.
       Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident Penarrubia town cops called Bangued police informing them that one Julius Conception Trinidad, 22, supply officer at Abra Provincial Capitol reported to them that four male persons flagged him down along Agtangao, Bangued while aboard his motorcycle then one of them slapped his head.  Bangued police responded to the incident and frisked the suspects and recovered the firearm from Jerry Molina.
 Molina was brought to Abra Provincial hospital for medico- legal examination and brought to Bangued police station where charges were prepared against him while confiscated firearm was turned over to the Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination. Trinidad did not pursue his complaint but gave his statement in support of the case to be filed against the suspect by the police.

Surrenderee nabbed in buy-bust operation
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Cops arrested a drug surrenderee in a buy-bust operation here Monday around 10 p.m. at Barangay Pico. Nabbed was Rafael Albunan “Raprap” Tomandao, 25, single, porter. Seized from him were were heat-sealed transparent sachets containing shabu and marked money of P1,000 bill.
 The suspect voluntary surrendered to La Trinidad police on July 10 but was discreetly monitored by the operatives to be selling shabu. He also failed to attend monitoring activities and programs set by La Trinidad police for surrenderees. A case for illegal drugs was filed against him,

3 nabbed for illegal drugs
BAGUIO CITY – Three persons were arrested here Monday around 7:45 p.m. at t Purok 17, Dumpsite for illegal drugs. Nabbed were Renante Mantonilo Mertola, 39; Manuelito Flores Ariola, 39 and Aira Nerez, 39. Confiscated items from them were shabu and drug paraphernalia.

Laborer wanted for estafa cases nabbed
TADIAN, Mountain Province – A 38-year-old laborer was arrested here Monday after awarrants were issued against him by five judges for multiple counts of estafa.
The suspect was identified as Benjamin Doligas Fomeg-as, 38, laborer, resident here of Lubon. Judges of Benguet who issued warrants against him were the late Agapito K. Laoagan of  RTC, Abatan, Buguias; Marybelle L. Demot Mariñas, RTC, La Trinidad; Judge Adolfo R. Malingan, MCTC of Kapangan-Kibungan, Kapangan; Judge Juanito A. Orallo, MCTC of Tublay-Atok, Tublay and Amparo M. MaliniasEspada, MCTC of Buguias-Bakun.

House burned in Bontoc
BONTOC, Mountain Province – A two-storey residential house ws burned here Monday around 7 a.m. at Fatayan, Bontoc Ili. Firemen responded but the fire was already extinguished by concerned neighbors.
Investigation revealed that the house made of wood was owned by Alex Pumecha Falangon, 60, driver. Investigation revealed the fire emanated from the second floor. Estimated cost of damages was P100,000.

Banaue house burned
BANAUE, Ifugao – A house was burned here Monday around 1:30 p.m. at Viewpoint,Banaue , Ifugao owned by  Emilia Bayninan, farmer. Cops and firemen responded and the fire was declared out some 15 minutes later.
Baynihan said her grandchildren ignited firewood to smoke banana but they left it unattended that caused it to spread on the wooden floor of the native house. Cost of damage was P100.000.

Young man sexually abuses 16-year-old   
LAMUT, Ifugao – A 16-year-old student of Alternative Learning School identified only as Julien accompanied by her father reported to police that around 8 p.m. Monday, inside a boarding house at Poblacion West, she was allegedly sexually abused by a certain Michael Capinpin, 19, of Subdivision, Poblacion West. 
Investigation disclosed the victim with companions Michael Capinpin, Jeva Suyat, Lester Puguon and Rustom Panit had a drinking spree. After their drinking session the victim together with Panit decided to go home.
When the victim was about to get her things the suspect blocked her way and allegedly attempted to kiss the victim. The suspect held the victim’s hand, unbuttoned, unzipped and rolled down her pants. Due to fear, the victim shouted for help. Suyat heard it so she entered the room and told Capinpin policemen were coming.         The suspect hurriedly stood up and went outside the room. The victim went home and revealed the incident to her father.

Bizman recovers cash in bus station stolen by worker
BAGUIO CITY – A businessman was able to recover P4,870 allegedly stolen by his employee Aug. 28 when he pursued him to the bus station where he was about to leave. A police report said the incident happened inside David Store at Garcia Building Upper Market here on complaint of Robert Bugatti Calingayan, 33, against his employee Roberto Pilapil Enad, 19, delivery boy, and stay-in. Investigation showed Calingayan is sleeping inside his room when his employee Lorenzo Labingon awakened and informed him that the suspect took their cash collections amounting to P4, 870.00 and ran away.
     Calingayan immediately boarded a taxi going to the PNR Terminal where he saw the suspect seated on the bus front seat. The suspect immediately got out from the bus, approached the complainant and gave the stolen cash collection inside his wallet. The suspect was brought to police station for investigation.

P8-M marijuana destroyed in Ifugao
TINOC, Ifugao – Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agents  discovered a marijuana plantation recently here and uprooted 40,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth P8 million in sitio Lukutan.recently
Operatives burned the marijuana plants on site while some were brought to Ifugao Provincial Police Office as evidence

DOLE Kalinga offers aid to drug users
TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- The Department of Labor and Employment is offering livelihood assistance to illegal drug users who surrendered and promised to reform.
       Provincial DOLE head Dr. Alexander Gumabol   said as their  counterpart in  the government’s  efforts to assist drug users to reform, the agency is  offering  jobs for these  people  be productive and help them turn their backs on the dangerous vice.
DOLE offers a maximum of P10, 000 worth of livelihood project and an individual can choose a menu to fit his or her interest or skill.  There is no need for them to organize, Gumabol said.
       He advised interested applicants to visit their office.They should bring with them the certification from the Office of the Barangay Chairman containing their oath of commitment to stop engaging in illegal drugs. -- Peter A. Balocnit

Baguio security guards join fight against drugs 
BAGUIO CITY - - Security guards in the city have joined the government’s campaign for drug - free Philippines.
The Philippine Society of Industrial Security Inc. (PSIS) Cordillera Chapter kicked - off its drug education program dubbed “Gwardya Kontra Droga” (Security guards against illegal drugs) at the University of Baguio last week.
This is series of seminars in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency - Cordillera and UB with private security agencies, representatives from the academe, church security personnel, reservists and youth leaders as participants.
     PSIS president Jennifer Mejia said their “Gwardya Konta Droga”  is  in support  to President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs.
 PDEA Cordillera director Juvenal B Azurin said security officers form a vital part in suppressing the distribution of prohibited drugs, Mejia   cited the importance of security guards as front liners to learn more about dangerous drugs and the government’s campaign against it. -- John Adi 

Kalinga gov’t  offices set program for 1,000 druggies
TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- Government offices in this province are now coordinating efforts on  “war” against illegal drugs.
       The Provincial Advisory Council of the Philippine National Police called a meeting last week to discuss converging efforts to rehabilitate and make productive for more than 1,000 drug users who surrendered in the province.
      The provincial social welfare and development office will help profile surrendered drug users while the Provincial Health Office will assist in drug testing and  assign medical personnel to augment in rehabilitation center if established. 
       Department of Labor and Employment provincial head Dr. Alexander Gumabol said they will offer a maximum of P10,000 livelihood assistance to individual applicants.
All they need is a certification from the barangay chairman if they have complied with their vow to reform, he said.
 TESDA provincial director John Adawey said aside from offering free skills training at their training center for reformed drug users, his office directed all public and private technical vocational institutions and TESDA technology institutions to institutionalize drug abuse prevention and post-rehabilitation programs. They also offer skills trainings to immediate family members of   drug dependents, he said.
Meanwhile, lawyer Oscar Boacon of  Department of Education said they they will monitor children at risk and in conflict with the law and institute their return to school. 
Gaspar Ola-ao  added they will lure some of the 12,811 youth 15-30 of age to undergo alternative learning system and get them enrolled to “Abot-alam” program. -- Peter A. Balocnit

Ifugao cops arrest 10 most wanted persons
LAGAWE, Ifugao – Ten most wanted persons were arrested in separate joint operations launched by various law enforcement agencies last week in the province.
Aguinaldo town police led by Senior Insp. Vicky Pabula  and Criminal Investigation Detection Group arrested two persons wanted for offenses while two wanted persons were also arrested in Alfonso Lista by police personnel led by Senior Insp. Ernesto Bekesan.
        Lagawe police led by Senior Insp. Peter Cawitan also arrested two wanted persons including one in Hingyon town.
       Police of Kiangan, Tinoc and PIB-Ifugao arrested two wanted persons while Lamut MPS arrested the number 9 top most wanted person in the municipality.--Marcelo B. Lihgawon

Hacked farmer fights for life
SALLAPADAN, Abra – A farmer is now fighting for his life after he was hacked here at the barangay hall of Ud-uddiao Aug. 28. 
     The victim was identified as Jovencio Babganan Bagni, 60, single, farmer, while the suspect was Fernando Mino, also a farmer and both residents of the place. 
      Investigation revealed the victim and the suspect with a certain Eugene Carmelo had a drinking spree in the house of the suspect, at around10:30 p.m. The victim left and went to the barangay hall to sleep. He was awakened when somebody hit him with a hard object then shouted for help while the suspect was attacking him. The victim identified the suspect as Fernando Mino.
     The victim was hacked in different parts of his body based on  findings of Dr. Edel Grace B. Lasam, municipal health officer.
    The victim was transferred to Abra Provincial Hospital for further medical treatment while suspect fled the scene.

Army man mauls government employee
VILLAVICIOSA, Abra -- A government employee was allegedly mauled here by a member of the Army’s 45th Infantry battalion based in Jolo, Sulu around 5 p.m. of Aug. 27.   
Police said on August 27, around 5 p.m. the suspect along with others are having a drinking session at Barangay Lumaba when the victim arrived to chat. The suspect mauled the victim when a heated argument ensued between them. Villaviciosa police brought the victim to the Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued for medical treatment. The suspect said he was willing to shoulder all expenses of the victim.

Man stabs self after wife’s kin confront him
BAGUIO CITY – A man was brought to a hospital here after he stabbed himself after being confronted by his wife’s relatives over a family problem.
         Police said the incident happened Aug.t 28, around 9 p.m. adding they received a phone call from Kagawad DelfinTul-od informing them that one Elmer Estacio Villanueva, 26, resident of Baguio Country Club Village was injured.
Investigation revealed the victim went home allegedly under the influence of liquor and was confronted by the relatives of his wife.  Jenny Lictaoa Martin, the victim’s sister-in-law, said during the confrontation, the victim got mad, picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed himself, prompting them to seek assistance from  barangay officials.
         Cops brought the victim along with barangay watchment to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for medical attention.

Man nabbed for homicide
MALIBCONG, Abra – Cops arrested a a certain Jefrey Martinez Gascon, 32,  construction worker, of Patucannay, Tayum town for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
This, after Redentor B Valera, presiding judge, municipal trial court  Bangued, ordered him arrested recommending bail of P30,000 for his temporary liberty.  Arrested person is now under the custody of Malibcong police.

Man wanted for estafa nabbed  
BAGUIO CITY – A man wanted for estafa was arrested here Aug 28  at Lower Lourdes Barangay, Arrested  was Jose Dean Batayo Espelico, 57, married and resident of said place.
         Acting presiding judge Cecilia Corazon S. Dulay-Archog of RTC Branch 6, Baguio City issued warrant for his arrest earlier recommending bail of P300, 000 for his temporary liberty.

Worker fires gun many times; threatens witnesses
LAGAYAN, Abra – Charges are set to be filed by police against a rubber tree plantation worker after he allegedly fired his gun many times night of Aug. 27 and later threatened witnesses at gunpoint.   
       A police report said the incident happened at Lucgay, Collago, naming the suspect as Ronie Cay-an Medrano, 32, resident of the area.  The report said sangguniang bayan member member Noel Cortez, reported to police he received a phone call from a concerned citizen in Collago, of firing incident on their residence around 7-8 p.m. omn Aug. 27.
Police called barangay kagawadJ omar Benjamin who confirmed gunshots have been heard around the residences. He said he conducted an inquiry among  residents and was informed that Medrano, was the one who fired the gunshots.  
The alleged suspect went to the residences of the witnesses purportedly looking for a friend but upon seeing the witnesses, he threatened them and later fired a long firearm which he was carrying. Police were not able to investigate as access to Collago was not possible due to the swollen Palsuguan River. 
             Benjamin said he spoke to Medrano and one of the alleged victims named Dionisio Cay-an wherein they agreed to settle the incident in front of barangay officials. The alleged victims and Benjamin were invited to go to Lagayan town proper for further investigation before charges would be filed against the suspect.

Farmer nabbed for syndicated estafa
LAGAWE, Ifugao --  Police arrested  here Monday a certain Alex Cholin Pil-o, 32, farmer, resident of IB 110- Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet for syndicated estafa. This, after Romeo U. Habbiling, presiding judge, of RTC Branch 14, Lagawe, issued arrest warrant against him for 11 estafa cases with no bail recommended.
