5 cops hurt in Abra NPA clash get medals of valor

TRINIDAD, Benguet,-- Top Cordillera police officials awarded medals of valor to
five police officers wounded in an ambush by New People’s Army members in Malibcong, Abra recently.
Regional police director Chief Supt. Elmer
Francis Sarona pinned medals and gave cash to PO2 Jessie Trinidad, PO1 Marion
Dela Paz, PO1 Gerome Baldos, PO1 Kennon Sanggoy, and PO1 Von Harold Layao, who
are recovering at Abra Provincial Hospital.
Sarona also provided medical cash assistance to
police who are members of Abra Provincial Public Safety Company.
This, aside from their P20, 000 partial
claims from PSMBFI.
The
full payment from PSMBFI will be given after they will be discharged from the hospital.
The policemen were wounded in action after
one platoon of the PPSC led by Abra police director Senior Supt. Alexander
Tagum with company commander Supt. Allen Bauding was ambushed at Malibcong
Malanas Bridge in Barangay Poblacion, Malibcong March 13 while on their
way to Malibcong to reinforce cops of the town police station attacked by New
Peple’s Army rebels the night before.
Sarona
said policemen showed extraordinary courage in performance of duty.
Meanwhile, Sarona ordered all police
regionwide to be on alert and initiate security preparations to prevent similar
incidents in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
